Ron is a great lawyer and friend! In this litigious society we live in, you always need to be prepared for the unexpected! I retained Ron during a neighbor dispute where the neighbor was being unreasonable and lawsuit happy. Ron backed up my property insurance lawyers because he knows me personally and made sure that they were looking out for my best interest. As a family man and business owner, Ron will be there for you!! J C B

We contacted Ron at Lovett Law Firm to have our Wills made. My husband and I had talked about doing it forever; we just kept putting it off. The idea was a little overwhelming, but we finally decided to get it done. Ron and Michelle were both very kind and made the process easy for us. Michelle was extremely helpful and sent us all of the paper work and information she needed to get started. Once we completed and returned what was needed, we set up an appointment and signed papers. Ron was very thorough in making sure we understood the process and answered all of our questions. We would definitely recommend their firm to anyone in need of a lawyer services.

Mr. Lovett's office did a great job for me and my family dealing with the insurance company that was not willing to pay the justifiable claims. I contacted Mr. Lovett on a Thursday and he was able to obtain a complete pay off by Wednesday of the next week! I wish dealing with all the Harvey flood issues could be resolve so easily. Many thanks to Lovett and staff!

Mr. Lovett is an expansive, impressive talker but produced zero for me except to waste my time. Ultimately, in the long run, he accomplished ZERO except to discourage and depress my spirits so that I don't feel like trying to find another lawyer. He, with total lack of conscience, wasted several months doing NOTHING that he promised, in a case that only has two years of time to prosecute. He led me on, having me believe he was searching for an 'expert' for my medical malpractice case. I have saved many texts from his wife/paralegal, and also met with him in person. Several months went by and no expert was ever produced. His office failed to keep in touch or to tell me the simple truth. I had to finally force him to tell me what was really going on, which was NOTHING. I texted and called and was run around with stalls and excuses. Since he had verbally, in person, PROMISED to find and pay for an expert, I believed him. Then came the red flags. At one point I was told they would need a medical release form but I was never called in to the office to sign one. He deftly avoided telling me that he was doing nothing. Experts are not that difficult to find, even for elective surgery, and he knew what the surgeon had done wrong from the get-go. He saw for himself the facial deformity that I suffer with his own eyes. I feel this case would have been easily settled. To this day I don't understand the disingenuous nature of this man and his wife/paralegal. Again, he verbally promised me, to my face, in his office, that he would personally locate an expert and pay for it so that we could proceed with the case. The offending surgeon has a terrible record with the Texas Medical Board and underwent psychiatric evaluation that I was unaware of beforehand. Mr. Lovett was aware of this, and even printed out pages from the Board's website about this doctor and handed them to me. I have a legitimate deformity caused by the surgeon's negligence in cutting into a facial muscle that should not have been involved in the surgical protocol. All he had to say was NO to me at the start, and I would have accepted it. I urge caution in hiring him.

I have known Mr. Krenek for many years. He represented our company as our corporate attorney and has represented me personally in a complicated legal matter. The results were better than I ever hoped. He was always great to work with on our corporate issues, he kept us informed, was always on track and focused on the end result. He has prevailed against hostile judges and the legal system when it appeared there was no way to win.

Laura and her assistant did a great job from beginning to end. They asked us questions that prepared us in planning for the future and even our minor children's future when they become adults. Important things we would have never thought of. Professional, reasonable, honest and kind. Overall an A+ experience. I highly recommend Laura!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Katy, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
