Pros
1
Excellent legal expertise and strong advocacy for clients
“Laura was amazing in helpful me through a very difficult divorce and child custody situation. She was tough and smart in how she handled the case.”
2
Responsive, attentive, and caring service
“Laura and her staff are incredibly kind, diligent, thorough and responsive! So thankful I chose this team!”
3
Successful case outcomes and client satisfaction
“I got more than the outcome I was hoping for. If anything is to come up in the future, I'll be going back to Laura.”
4
Professionalism and integrity
“The out standing professionalism was out of the world great. Always a phone call or email away from any questions asked.”
5
Dedicated to clients' best interests, especially protecting children
“She is 100% dedicated to looking out for the most vulnerable in a divorce, the children.”
Cons
1
Lack of communication and responsiveness for some clients
“Buyer beware. A terrible experience. Divorce is hard enough as it is. However, when you have an attorney that doesn't respond to calls or emails for weeks, says they'll do something but never get around to it and even worse gives you misinformation to have you sign a poor settlement agreement, it makes it even harder.”
2
Concerns about bias and unfair treatment for minority clients
“Never let this attorney Laura B. Alexander represent you. If I could give 0 stars I would, 0/10 would not recommend. Her representation is weak and she treats their minority clients less than acceptable.”

Buyer beware. A terrible experience. Divorce is hard enough as it is. However, when you have an attorney that doesn’t respond to calls or emails for weeks, says they’ll do something but never get around to it and even worse gives you misinformation to have you sign a poor settlement agreement, it makes it even harder. Ms Alexander inherited my case in March 2022 and up to Feb 2023, I was worse off than where I had started. We took steps backwards instead of forward and there was no empathy or concern about items that were important to me or that my life was on hold while nothing was moving. Communication was limited, and mostly via email. In 1 year, we had at best 2 Zoom conversations, maybe 2 phonecalls and one of those was my consultation. There were also a few no call, no show instances for meetings requested. Recommendations from family and friends who were also attorneys were to report her to the bar but because I had already paid a large retainer, I had concerns on getting zero return on what had already been paid. After too many professional mishaps, I lost confidence in her and found that it was cheaper and less stressful to fire her and get another attorney who solved my issue in 6 weeks. I couldn’t in good conscience recommend anybody to this attorney as she proved to be an even bigger adversary/barrier than my ex. It was so bad I asked for a refund which is still pending. Despite her poor performance, it is not an indication of BHW Law Firm as I had worked with BHW on another case and they were superb. What was missing from Ms Alexander is empathy, ownership and basic soft skills needed for success.

Never let this attorney Laura B. Alexander represent you. If I could give 0 stars I would, 0/10 would not recommend. Her representation is weak and she treats their minority clients less than acceptable. Laura B. Alexander is not a fair attorney and can’t even hold a decent conversation with clients. She feels intimidated by people of color especially African Americans and has a poor communication and a poor sense of judgment. DO NOT hire her for ANYTHING. You have been warned

Although not his specialty, Wade is totally competent to prepare Wills and Powers of Attorney. He prepared them for my wife and for me and we were very pleased. The staff there is exceptional. We highly recommend the firm.

Wade, his wife Sarah, and his staff did a great job handling my divorce. Every time I went into his office, I was scared and nervous. Every time I left, I was confident that I had made the right decision to hire him. My divorce was not easy, but Wade did the necessary research needed. I cannot thank him enough.

I cannot say enough great things about this law firm. Everyone there is professional and Wade is an excellent attorney. His associate, Kristen Carr is also amazing. With their help, my kids and I were able to start over and rebuild our lives away from a narcissistic abuser. Wade has handled my initial divorce as well as enforcement and modification hearings since that time and all have been done quickly and thoroughly. He is honest and his entire staff is family-oriented. They know and expect the sensitive nature and emotions of a client going through such a heart wrenching time. The costs were very fair in my opinion and I always get my questions answered. Yes, I have called their office in tears and panic. Yes, I have called their office totally angry and frustrated. Yes- they have handled it with compassion and grace. My ex refused to bring my children home once and didn't tell me where they were. This law firm jumped on things quickly and my boys were returned to me within hours of my making a phone call. I totally feel protected and defended- you cannot put a price on that kind of assurance.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Keller, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
