4
Successful in negotiating and settling complex personal injury cases
“Christy stepped in and took care of it all! ... She proved how good she is at using tactics and negotiation techniques that allowed us to settle prior to going to court.”
Cons
1
Potential communication and responsiveness issues
“She contacted me less than one month before her statue of limitation was up to say they wouldn't be able to represent me. This is very unethical. ... I did let Mandy know that this review will be taken place. Be careful. Make sure you know who you're talking to and make notes.”
2
Lack of success in certain legal matters
“He and the group of lawyers that represented us did not do us justice. I'd take your business elsewhere, and to another state if possible. I am left without what was owed to me; with terrible memories and regret. Above all; No justice.”

Phillip Galyen is a very poor criminal defense lawyer! He sent Bailey a paralegal at the time to take a plea for me in court!

Best Estate Attorney! Helping my family, who had no idea how to deal with my aunt’s estate, Eric Mauro was amazing. We kept in touch every few weeks; He’d always had a quick response to questions, explained how the process works, set expectations, and was so helpful. I can’t thank him enough. My husband and I will definitely keep his law firm for future work! Thank you so much for your assistance with handling the estate of my aunt! 😊

Eric was very meticulous and thorough when my husband and I had our Wills revised and trusts constructed. He advised on issues I needed to consider but hadn't considered for our complex estate plan. It's obvious that Eric is a very experienced specialist in his niche. I am very selective and searched for quite a while to find a well rated attorney a generation younger than us. This is an importance feature for seniors who will need their attorney as they advance in age (I learned from my parents mistakes!). I also wanted an estate specialist close to our home in Sunnyvale so we could easily meet in person and not have to drive downtown Dallas. I heartily recommend the Mauro Law Firm for your estate and business needs.

I wanted answers to my son's death and by the grace of God I was led to Grady Chandler. Grady Chandler left no stone unturned and joined with top attorney- Marquette Wolf and together they uncovered the true reasons why my son died. CHANDLER AND WOLF FOUND OUT E- V- E- R- Y- T- H- I- N- G !!! Every detail. Every lie. Every cover up. EVERYTHING. Grady Chandler and Marquette Wolf treated my case as if it were their own son whose life was taken- and fought with the determination, dedication, and ferocity that only family members would. These two seasoned attorneys handled my son’s wrongful death case with precision, accuracy, and honesty. I am proud to recommend these attorneys for all whom are suffering the wrongful death of a loved one.

After being involved in an auto accident, it was clear that my insurance company was going to do nothing but pay to fix my car under my collision insurance, which included a $500 deductible, even though the other driver was as at fault and my insurance company concurred with this. I contacted Greg Oberg and he called me back. He said that he would be able to help me and set up an appointment with me. When I met with Mr. Oberg, he was very reassuring as he gathered information and explained the process to me. He was very helpful in answering all of my questions. He and his assistant kept me informed throughout the process. The other party's insurance company did some posturing through the process as though this would go to Court, but in the end, Mr. Oberg achieved a satisfactory settlement for me without going to Court. I am very pleased with the outcome and Mr. Oberg is a very competent professional that I would gladly recommend.

I was in a car accident while away at college and Mr. Oberg was extremely helpful. Mr. Oberg kept me informed anytime something came up and always explained to me what my options were. He worked very hard to get me the settlement amount that I got, it was more than I could have imagined. He took care of absolutely everything and I had nothing to worry about throughout the case. I highly recommend him!

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Mesquite, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
