Last summer I had to find a land title litigation attorney to represent our family in a dispute over ownership of land our family has had since the 1800’s. I had no experience in handling a situation like this and I was terrified for our family! By the grace of God, John Cope was recommended to me by a respected Fort Worth attorney and after meeting with him, most of my worry disappeared! He has been so caring, understanding, informative, and professional! He has the connections and knowledge to get things accomplished where others would fail! What John Cope did for our family was nothing short of a miracle!

Mr. Cope is highly recommended! His communication with us was excellent and he was very reassuring during our process. He made the process as seamless as possible and went above and beyond. I've dealt with other law firms which seem to put you on the back burner and pass the case off to others in the office, but not Mr. Cope! He makes himself available in a way that you feel you are his only client.

John Cope and his team are highly recommended. We contacted John for some family real estate concerns and he took the matter up as if it was his own personal issue. He was thorough, addressed all of our concerns and provided sound advise and direction on anything we needed moving forward. I will definitely keep The Cope Firm a priority for any future needs.

I have known John Cope for many years, but as a friend and coach for my son's baseball team. It was not until recently that I had the need for John's professional services. John examined what appeared to me to be a straightforward real estate contract, but was, in fact peppered with many traps that would have put us at significant disadvantage and risk. I'm so glad John was involved in this transaction. He is insightful, knowledgeable, responsive and assertive. I'm glad he was on my side. Great real estate attorney! Thanks, John!!!

Definitely made my first experience with needing an attorney as painless as possible.

Atty: Josh Marcum was recommeded to me and from our initial consultation I knew He was the Atty for me. His expertise, experience, and professionalism were constant source of comfort, reassurance, and confidence, to me as we navigated thru the legal system together. His previous role as a Defense Atty was also very beneficial; as it provided insight that I found to be invaluable for my endeavor. I highly recommend him to any and all who find themselves in need of legal services. Do not settle... get "Superior" Legal Services

Josh Marcum is absolutely amazing. He is punctual, effective, diligent, and understanding. He was very kind and very easy to talk to. Instead of just letting me know how it was gonna be like my previous attorney he heard my desired outcome, fought for it, and achieved it. I asked for less community service time and he got it, I asked for a dismissal and he got it. Like all good things it took a little time, but it was all very worth it when I got call from Josh saying it was over and done. 5 out of 5 stars all the way.

Ms Boll represented me in the divorce. She drafted it quickly, and we had to set a hearing to enter it with the court to get the decree signed. I was very pleased with her representation.

Kate Lynn Boll is an amazing attorney and I would definitely refer her. I was referred to her by a former client for my custody battle with my daughter. Kate Lynn Boll has gotten me far better results than I ever could of imagined. I went from noy being able to see our daughter after the split up, to joint custody. I now see my daughter 50% of the time. I honestly couldnt of asked for a more hardworking, dedicated, and professional attorney. Sheri was very committed to acquiring as much paperwork as she could for the case and handling all the behind the scenes work. This office and staff are a very professional and caring group of people, and if I ever need an attorney again, I will use her.

Kaye Lynne has been a lifesaver during a very difficult and complicated divorce. She has provided guidance and solutions for recovering funds I thought may be lost in divorce negotiations. She is a strong willed creative problem solver and I am fortunate to have her in my corner. To call her staff detail oriented is an understatement. They left no stone unturned to get me the best settlement. I look to my new single future with high hopes. Thanks for everything!

Bryan Tharp is an US Army Ranger, who now practices law. I have known Bryan for many years. After law school, he decided service to our nation was important, and he became an United States Army Ranger. He was as committed to the service of our nation then as he is to his clients now. He is a fine attorney and a great American!

While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of North Richland Hills, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
