David is the most unprofessional, rude, insensitive, and judgemental lawyer you can hire. David wasn’t my lawyer, but he represented someone who sexually assaulted me, and when this person got a very nice plea deal that I did not agree to, David decided to make comments directed at me and actually speak to me like nothing happened. He also called me while this trial went on and definitely tampered with evidence.

I hired David Kleckner a long time ago to be my legal counsel. Mr. Kleckner was attentive, thorough, & compassionate. He represented me in a professional manner. I would recommended him to represent someone in need of a criminal defense lawyer without any hesitation.

I called this person about a landlord/tenant dispute. I explained my situation and was quickly told, "I'm on the landlord's side"!! He treated me like I was just trying to get an easy payday or break lease early without consequences... which I made clear I wasn't. I simply wanted to have a peaceful place to live. He was unnecessarily harsh and abrasive. There must be a way to tell someone you don't think they have a case or that you don't want to take their case without being cruel! By the end of the short conversation, I was completely in tears! I was looking for help, and instead was made to feel like I was being mistreated by not only the landlord I was seeking advice about, but the lawyer I was hoping could help. I wouldn't trust this man with a traffic ticket, or wish him on my worst enemy! No one deserves that kind of treatment!

The review posted right before mine on Jan 25, 2017 is the exact same experience I went through. It's unbelievable that a man supposed to be helping others can be so unprofessional, intimidating, and horrifically rude to the point of literally yelling at me on the phone and making me burst into tears for missing my bond hearing, which he failed to even tell me about. I hired a new amazing lawyer to represent me and the bond forfeiture was dismissed. This man harassed not just myself, but my father as well who had to loan money just to pay him... and this is how unprofessional he is: he asked us to meet us on a Saturday afternoon with the obscene amount of money in CASH. He asked us to meet him at the parking lot of a Popeyes, and we waited half an hour until he showed up on a bicycle to collect the money from us. Never saw him again. He appeared at my first hearing over an hour late but my new lawyer was already there present with me from the very beginning. When Kleckner finally showed up in his wrinkly old suit and untidy appearance , we were already inside the court room and my lawyer let him know he was taking over.

So I got arrested for a misdeamenor back in July 2015. My parents posted my bail and called David Kleckner. He asked $2,000 from my parents. My parents had to borrow money just to bail me out. He called me and he said his retainer was $5,000. I said no and hired a really great attorney who worked with me to expunge my case. Now it's 1/25/2017 and I learned that my case was disposed and bond was released on 12/01/2016. I called the county clerk and they said it was released to David Kleckner and the amount of my bail is only $335.20! The clerk told me that I was supposed to get my money back and I should call David Kleckner because he processed the check to be released to him. I called him and he said that he worked VERRRRY HARD to bail me out that night really fast. Uhhh, you bailed me out during morning time and you took more than 18 hours. He also said he did a lot of paperwork for me. I asked him if he has my paperwork, he said he does not and the court has them. I asked him why he told my parents my bail was $2,000 and he said that was the cost of his services and the bond. I asked him if he can send me a copy of the agreement he and my parents signed. He said "we shook hands." Wait, what? What kind of lawyer does not have any paperwork?! My parents told me they have never met David Kleckner and they only spoke on the phone and my "bond" was paid using my parents credit card. He was very arrogant and defensive on the phone. What a low life. Taking advantage of people in their lowest point of their life for his own personal advances. PLEASE NEVER CALL OR HIRE THIS PERSON. I would not even call him an attorney. I will be sending a letter to their board about this.

Todd is the absolute best, I consulted with another attorney prior to hiring Todd, and Todd's keen attention to detail is what prompted me to hire Todd on the spot. I was accused of something that would have drastically altered my life trajectory. Todd was able to get the case dismissed, allowing me to continue on my path. Highly recommend Todd to anyone seeking a highly skilled, trained, and effective attorney!

If you find yourself in a bind, contact Todd immediately to represent you. He was able to take my case from start to finish and kept me informed every part of the process. I was found not guilty for my DWI and couldn’t be happier with the result. This case may have gone differently if Todd wasn’t my attorney. His team is also phenomenal to work with. He is worth every penny and also takes a genuine interest in your life.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Plano, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
