Pros
1
Excellent communication and responsiveness from the lawyers and staff
“Bill and Kerri are an amazing team! They responded quickly to all of my communication and made me feel like they were working hard for me during the entire process.”
2
Demonstrated expertise and successful outcomes in tax and probate law
“Bill Bronson did what others could not, guide us to a better than expected tax resolution. Wish I would have found the Bronson Law Firm sooner.”
3
Personalized, compassionate, and tailored approach to client needs
“Peter Hall was definitely a BREATH OF FRESH AIR compared to my experience with other lawyers and investment advisors. He was VERY informative and laid out all of the final financial options in a fashion that I could understand.”
4
Transparency and fair pricing
“They were extremely reasonable in billing, and ensure that you and your family are properly taken care of.”
5
Highly recommended by satisfied clients
“I highly recommend Peter Hall to anyone looking to prepare their estate in the event of their passing. His 'down to earth' demeanor, candor, and reasonable fee schedule were exactly what I was looking for.”
Cons
1
Poor communication, lack of progress, and overcharging
“Lack of Communication: Throughout the process, I rarely heard from my attorney. Calls and emails often went unanswered, and I had to repeatedly follow up to get basic updates on my case. No Progress: After several months, there was little to no progress in my case. I felt like nothing was being done behind the scenes to move things forward, despite the ongoing charges. Overcharging: Even though no results were achieved, I was consistently billed for services that felt unnecessary and unproductive.”
2
Lawyers quitting or being reassigned without notice
“They switched lawyers on me 4 times, charged me for switching lawyers before I could realize this was alll a scam I was already in almost $10,000 in debt.”
3
Deceptive billing practices and lack of transparency
“They billed me another 2000.00 to send an email to notify the court that my husband and i decided to stay together. My husband's attorney didn't charge him another dime to close this case.”
4
Prioritizing profits over client interests
“They only want the money....and later do nothing!.The worst experience I had trusting a Texan. Make me loose time and money!”
5
Unresponsive, rude, and unprofessional staff
“Horrible service! Amy AND torie refuse to answer calls, they ask for more money than the initial agreement and won't even tell you what it's for. Run to another law firm or be prepared to get ripped off.”

I love Josh and his amazing team at Carpenter Associates! Initially, I had hired an attorney for my child custody case and he let my ex walk all over me. I had to do all the reaching out to his office. His paralegal was nearly impossible to get in contact with, either by phone or email. And when I was able to make contact, I felt like my inquiries were an inconvenience to her. I felt so hopeless and scared and unsure of my next steps. Josh Carpenter was highly recommended to me by a friend, and so I decided to switch to him for my attorney. I learned very quickly the difference it makes between having a deficient attorney and having one who actually fights for you. Josh is a good man with a huge heart for people. I am very thankful to have been able to work with him. I haven’t had any negative interactions with anyone at the Carpenter & Associates office. Everyone has been exceptionally kind to me and helpful. As I tuck my children in bed at night with a kiss and a prayer, or cuddle with them on the couch to watch a show that they love, or hear their sweet voices in the backseat as they tell me about their day at school or get to see the biggest grin on their faces when they catch a fish on our camping trip……..I realize that none of this would have been possible if it hadn’t been for God putting Josh Carpenter and his Team in my life. 🥹 Love from a grateful Mama 💗

Attorney Josh Carpenter handled multiple criminal cases for me. The actions he and his office took on my behalf resulted in quick and favorable results for me. I could not be more grateful for the care Mr Carpenter and his team showed after coming to his office last minute to get my cases corrected and resolved.

They made a stressful and overwhelming process much more manageable with their clear communication and guidance. They took the time to explain every step, ensuring I understood my options and felt confident in the decisions I was making. Their expertise and attention to detail gave me peace of mind, and I always felt like a priority. Mr. Carpenter has been my personal attorney for over a decade. He is compassionate, extremely knowledgeable, responsive, and professional. I trust him and his firm to handle whatever life unexpectedly hands me and to also help prepare for the life events that are expected. Mr. Carpenter is a family man and knows what it takes to advocate for those who don’t have a voice. If I had to choose an attorney again to represent me and my interests, I would choose Mr. Carpenter every time!

Todd is the absolute best, I consulted with another attorney prior to hiring Todd, and Todd's keen attention to detail is what prompted me to hire Todd on the spot. I was accused of something that would have drastically altered my life trajectory. Todd was able to get the case dismissed, allowing me to continue on my path. Highly recommend Todd to anyone seeking a highly skilled, trained, and effective attorney!

If you find yourself in a bind, contact Todd immediately to represent you. He was able to take my case from start to finish and kept me informed every part of the process. I was found not guilty for my DWI and couldn’t be happier with the result. This case may have gone differently if Todd wasn’t my attorney. His team is also phenomenal to work with. He is worth every penny and also takes a genuine interest in your life.

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Plano, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
