My husband & I needed wills for both of us and post nuptial agreement. Eric was recommended by a friend in Richmond, TX where he represented us. It was a process due to second marriages for both of us, but Eric helped us work through the process. After completing the process, we felt a sense of relief having plans in place that we are both happy with.

My husband and I live in Sugar Land. When looking for an attorney to update our wills and create a special needs trust for our daughter, we started looking for recommendations. I got several and looked at their reviews. I couldn't choose any of them. Their reviews were horrible. One day driving to Richmond, I saw a billboard for Eric Junker Law Firm. I looked at the website and found he was known for special needs trusts. Then I saw the reviews! One of the best decisions I've ever made. Competent, professional, work done in a timely fashion, and way less costly than I had anticipated. I'm so totally relieved to have this done so I don't need to worry. Best part of all, Eric is very personable and the process was totally painless!

Our family secured the legal assistance of Junker Law for the purposes of a "special needs trust." Several attorneys were consulted but we did not feel the sense of compassion and honesty that we experienced with Junker Law. This entire experience has brought relief and security to our family. Junker Law is awesome, and I would not recommend anyone else for your family estate planning, particularly, those in need of a "special needs trust." We have been Blessed and educated throughout this endeavor. May God Continue to Bless Junker Law to provide these desperately needed services.

Mr Junker amended our Trusts recently. We had heard of him during a financial seminar. We were glad we hired him. From our first meeting on, Mr. Junker was straight forward, friendly and reasonable. He interpreted the applicable rules in a lucid way. The documents he prepared were thorough. I do not hesitate to recommend his services to prospective clients.

'When I retained Kasey Doggett to represent me, he provided a clear and detailed scope of services that he would provide for his stated fee, along with a list of some potentially necessary services which would entail additional costs. My case began just prior to the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and he brought it to resolution in the court by May of 2021. There were no terms in our agreement with regard to the effect of the pandemic on the case pertaining to costs or timeline. While there may have been some some extension of the case duration caused by the pandemic, I found it understandable and acceptable, and I incurred no additional costs due to it. Kasey clearly explained every step to be taken during the proceedings. I am very pleased with the outcome of my case and I feel that Mr. Doggett works with high ethical standards. I would not hesitate to retain him again should the need arise and very much recommend his service. He is a credit to his profession.

Ms. Chiang has helped me with my case at the VA and was able to secure the benefits and medical treatment that I earned. She will see everything through and ensure that claims are properly navigated through the complex legal system at the VA. I would recommend speaking to her before risking getting stuck in any one of the many pitfalls at the VA.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Richmond, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
