I’m just like all of you. When I got pulled over and cited for a common since move on my part, I decided to fight back and not just pay the city. I called Jeff Brown!!! I didn’t care if it cost more I refused to let that guy that cited me win. Case was dismissed- Good Luck and Thank You for Everything Jeff

Jeff was proficient, friendly, and saved me a lot of hassle. He took care of some tickets I had in multiple cities around the metroplex, something which most other law offices I contacted were unwilling to do. Saved me a lot of hassle and money. Overall was a pleasure to work with him.

My experience with Jeff Brown has been excellent. Jeff gave my case all the time and attention that is needed to be successful. He is always a calming and confident presence during his work with us. I never once have been treated as anything other than a valuable client by Jeff. Communication and updates were handled quickly and detailed enough to keep us up to date. I very much appreciate the knowledge and support I received through Jeff Brown, and would HIGHLY recommend.

I first met Mr. Chambers in 2004 and from the beginning I knew here was a man full of knowledge, professionalism and more importantly integrity. He worked as our SEC attorney for over two years and I can say it was his incredible ability to put all of the pieces together that helped turn an absolute mess into a bonafide public company. We could not have accomplished anything without Mr. Chambers. His team approach along with his strict rules of following the letter of the law, clearly set him apart from most. Awesome lawyer, family man and friend. Truly one of a kind.

Lori was recommended as someone would be an advocate for my children and me, leaving an abusive home situation with my ex husband, who had an open CPS case against him and had temporarily lost custody due to extreme abuse. The end result of working with Lori was a financial and custodial mess. My kids were not protected, and more than a year was wasted with nothing settled. My children were still in an abusive and neglectful situation with their dad, and he was still behind on support, with minimal to no help from Lori. She just took notes on everything for a year and told me to "wait" to make changes to the custody agreement, leaving the kids at risk. Her receptionist is rude and unhelpful, and Lori admitted to grossly overcharging me, and in the end, cut my bill down by 1/3 to fix her "error". I am still in custody and support hell, and have retained a new lawyer after Lori left me hanging saying that she was "too busy" to respond to a motion filed against me regarding the kids, one that she had weeks of warning on, one that she said she would get back to me on ASAP. Getting through to her or her staff is a nightmare, and be prepared to be charged $250 for a seven minute phone call, or $20 every time you speak with the receptionist, or $10 for every email (returned or unreturned). Also be prepared that they don't keep track of their accounting and will forget you've made a payment, because they misplaced it. Expect to wait months for assistance on matters, and don't count on her to be there when time is running out on an important matter. In the end when I was served with a mandated maximum twenty day response time, Lori knowingly and purposely left me and more importantly my children out in the cold, and didn't think twice about it. She is one person when you first meet and retain her, and another when you continue to work with her. I cannot think of a less competent, less caring person that should be practicing family law. I could not in good conscience let this go without warning others. I wish I could go into more detail, but there is a character limit for these reviews.

I have been notified by many different people the number of ex parte communications this lawyer engaged in as a court appointed attorney. She is dishonest, biased and depends on court appointments for her salary. The clients I have met that hired her regretted the decision because of her lack of attention to details and errors based on her lack of knowledge of the Civil and Family Code. I would rather go in pro se than have her represent me in court again.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Roanoke, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
