I’ve known Dawn Salas for about 7 years and she will take care of you in a very professional way with all your immigration needs. I have worked with her on an E2 Visa, a job permit, and a Permanent Resident Card case. She has been fantastic on all of them. She is very clear with all requirements and gets things done promptly. Thank you so much Dawn for all your help!

Katy is an excellent attorney. She represented me in my divorce. She provided valuable explanations of Texas law. She ensured I thought about every angle and option open to me throughout the process. She listened to my priorities and goals and acted accordingly. I hope I never have to go through a divorce again, but if I do, I will hire Katy to represent me.

Matt is quick to respond and give his honest opinion! I appreciate the time he took to review something for me that I was trying to do on my own. When you look at divorce, separation, and kids it is terrifying. I reached out to someone that I respected as a lawyer and would give me honest feedback to include concerns and corrections. I have known Matt since he started as an attorney and have had the opportunity to watch him become an excellent attorney for parents and children! He is very good at what he does and he knows the laws and will fight for you! He has high integrity and good character! I highly recommend him and have referred several people to him!

Compassionate, dedicated, and loyal describe attorney at law, Matthew Paul McChesney. He is an individual with supreme integrity. Integrity which describes the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness. Matthew exudes these characters of honesty, probity, rectitude, and honor. He exhibits great character, principle(s), ethics, righteousness, morality, virtue, decency, fairness, scrupulousness, sincerity, truthfulness, and most important trustworthiness. Qualities one desires when seeking legal advice and representation in a court of law. I was extremely fortunate to be referred to Matthew McChensney during a horrific and unfortunate situation in my life. Not only did Matthew advise, orchestrate, research and prove in court the findings in my favor, he had the skills to diffuse my emotional distress in a courteous and professional manner. This was no easy task. I was losing my life, my dream ranch, my horses, my barn, my property, my friends and a significant financial investment... All due to my stupidity of not being informed of the importance of making sure loans and deeds had my name on the papers of which I had invested. I trusted my life partner of whom I was with 25 years... only to be mistreated, lied to, and verbally and emotionally abused. Thankfully due to Matthew's extensive legal work and my exceptional record keeping, Matthew was able to prove in court equitable trust... Justice was served.. my beautiful home and ranch was rightfully returned to me. Namasta. I highly recommend Matthew Paul McChesney to represent all people of the great state of Texas.

I interviewed over twenty attorneys before selecting Mr. McChesney. His vocal artillery is lethal in the courtroom. To behold my ex caught in a lie and unable to speak on the witness stand was priceless. I have never seen my ex speechless and Matt accomplished that feat like stealth tiger stalking his prey unnoticed; until the pounce and quick death bite. The classic line from Matt when my ex couldn't talk and was staring off into space was, "Your Honor, witness unresponsive"! The judge even cracked a smile and it took everything I had to keep from rolling on the floor and laughing hysterically. Matt is so unassuming and likable while questioning the opposition has no idea the brutal take down is coming. Literally, my ex was in shock and could not speak. Do not let Mr. McChesney's young age and appearance fool you, he is the most capable litigator I have ever seen! This kid is going to be a legal star. Highly recommended , ethical, incredible legal knowledge, and losing is not in his vocabulary.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Round Rock, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
