My experiences with the Deck Law Firm have been nothing short of excellence in action. I initially engaged the Deck Law Firm on a tax issue many years ago and through Tyler's work received a favorable outcome. Last year I had my first interaction with Williamson County and was arrested on a DWI. My first time ever in jail and first DWI charge. Very much a life changing event even at 50+ as well as my employment in the transportation industry. My first call was to the Deck Law Firm and Ryan Deck specifically for this case. He personally called me back, asked very specific questions of course and then talked me through the process we would be going forward with. Ryan's Paralegal team of Nikki and Lillian were both top notch in sharing information and advising me of Ryan's instructions to complete certain steps in advance of our initial court date as well as all follow up court dates and needed information for us all to be successful. Meeting Ryan in person and watching him command attention in the court room setting is most impressive when you compare him to other lawyers present in a court room setting. His experience, knowledge of the system and personality is a winning combination for anyone needing help through a DWI experience. Follow all of his instructions and let Ryan and his team work for you and you will definitely get the most favorable outcome from the court system. I would have zero hesitation whatsoever in recommending Ryan and his team for any legal representation.

“I cannot say enough about the incredible representation I received from Ryan Deck. From the very first consultation, it was clear that he was relentless in his pursuit of justice. Ryan left no stone unturned, meticulously analyzing every detail of my case and finding flaws in the prosecution’s arguments that I didn’t even know existed. Throughout the process, he was communicative, supportive, and fiercely dedicated. Ryan’s courtroom presence was impressive—sharp, confident, and unshakable. Thanks to his tireless efforts and legal expertise, the outcome of my case was a Not Guilty verdict. I would highly recommend Ryan to anyone facing a DWI/Criminal charge. He truly fights for you and delivers results.”

Ryan and his team did a thorough job through and through. They were not only vested in my best interest but also found a way to get things done the way I wanted. While managing multiple intense cases he was able to treat mine with a full breakdown from top to bottom of the best way to approach things. While his recommendations were always the best thing to do, he found a way to combine that with what I wanted (a speedy resolution). His professionalism and respect were 10/10 and I would recommend him to any and everybody, big case or small case, he is the man!

I hired Mr. Howard after shopping around, he had a competitive rate, and seemed capable and savvy. I'm glad I did. Mr. Howard was a consummate professional, spoke to me frankly and let me know what my options were. He was able to facilitate my case being dismissed, and I'm very grateful to him. If you need a good lawyer, Dave Howard's your man.

I felt like Dave had my back, and that I was in good hands. He went above and beyond getting my cases cleaned up, and took care of everything that needed to be taken care of without me having to do a thing. Dave was always on time and taking care of business. I'm sure he deals with a lot of people, but you always felt your matters were important. At the end of the day, he had it all taken care of perfectly, always laying out all options.

Jim spent an incredible amount of time preparing the defense for my friend, working with both the DA and the judge. Jim believed in my friend and defended him vigorously. He was able to convey very personal details allowing the DA and judge to come to an equitable sentence.

For many years, I have been struggling with the mistaken identity of a criminal with the same name and birthdate as me, who was somehow linked to my persona because of a mistake made by the officer who filled out the report. This issue was causing a lot of problems; it even caused me an arrest at the airport. After years of unsuccessfully seeking a lawyer that might represent me, I came across James A. Drummond, who handled my case and knew exactly how to proceed. The effort and time spent going above and beyond to help me with my case is priceless. I had this problem of mistaken identity for over 8 years, but James was on top of it, and he was successful in only 5 months. James was always there, whether I had a simple question or just wanted him to give me feedback about my case. I just want to state that if you need a lawyer, definitely do not hesitate to give him a call. James will do everything in his power to make it right and get the job done. I would absolutely highly recommend James to anyone. My wife and I will always be grateful. Thank you so much for all your help, James!

Where to start? Jay and I have been “roughing the seas” for two years with a difficult divorce. My experience with Jay has been nothing but great. The man knows the law and leaves nothing to chance. He’s a very patient but assertive in his doings. Never has he left me wondering about the status on the divorce and his communication is excellent. If he gives you the opportunity to retain him as your attorney, do it. Today solidified my divorce and my results were nothing but ideal.

Jay represented me in a very complicated, contentious divorce. He is well respected by the legal community and courts in Williamson County and known as a quick-thinking, creative, thoughtful and experienced attorney...all of which I have witnessed first hand. I would recommend him without hesitation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Round Rock, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
