Pros
1
Highly knowledgeable and skilled advocates who are adept at navigating the legal system and achieving favorable outcomes for clients
“Nancy was there for every question and even to give us the proper nudge when it was time to file for mediation with the district, which is when she took the reins. Although we cannot discuss the details of the outcome of the mediation, I can say that both Nancy and the Assigned Attorney with the firm said that it was probably the best outcome that they have ever seen.”
2
Responsive and communicative, providing regular updates and addressing client questions
“Steve is a great communicator, made adjustments as a I gave him feedback, and the whole process was seamless and easy.”
3
Personable and compassionate, making clients feel at ease and understood
“Truly blessed to know that someone who doesn't know us, but listened to us, (my son included) and made us feel at ease in this situation.”
Cons
1
Potential inconsistency in responsiveness and attention to client needs, with some clients reporting a lack of communication and support towards the end of their engagement
“At this point is when I noticed their lack of attention as compared to when I first spoke to them. At the beginning they were both calling me, asking me questions and very attentive to my case. Even after numerous attempts to speak to them when they finally responded, Nancy was very aggressive and rude with me over the phone. I could tell she had no interest in helping me.”
2
Possible issues with the firm's ability to handle certain types of cases, as indicated by one review mentioning a "not very smart" lawyer who "looked stupid" in an employment law case
“Not very smart genius family lawyer tried handling a employment law case and just looked stupid!”

We have been working with advocate David Beinke over the past 5 years. After having several issues with my son’s school including the school harassing us daily and refusing to provide any services to my son. David was able to defuse the situation and get my son's education back on track. Since his intervention we have been able to get my son the education services he needs. He participates in all of our yearly ARD's to make sure my son continues to get the help and educations services he needs.

Jim spent an incredible amount of time preparing the defense for my friend, working with both the DA and the judge. Jim believed in my friend and defended him vigorously. He was able to convey very personal details allowing the DA and judge to come to an equitable sentence.

For many years, I have been struggling with the mistaken identity of a criminal with the same name and birthdate as me, who was somehow linked to my persona because of a mistake made by the officer who filled out the report. This issue was causing a lot of problems; it even caused me an arrest at the airport. After years of unsuccessfully seeking a lawyer that might represent me, I came across James A. Drummond, who handled my case and knew exactly how to proceed. The effort and time spent going above and beyond to help me with my case is priceless. I had this problem of mistaken identity for over 8 years, but James was on top of it, and he was successful in only 5 months. James was always there, whether I had a simple question or just wanted him to give me feedback about my case. I just want to state that if you need a lawyer, definitely do not hesitate to give him a call. James will do everything in his power to make it right and get the job done. I would absolutely highly recommend James to anyone. My wife and I will always be grateful. Thank you so much for all your help, James!

I was referred to Blayre’s practice by an attorney that I know and trust. He described her as “great” and “solid”. That’s high praise from an experienced partner at a different firm. I was immediately impressed when I called and spoke with a paralegal who took down the basics of my case to refer to the legal team. He was patient and caring, and he didn’t brush me off because I needed a consultation within 24 hours or because this would be a small matter per their usual case size. He called back in a couple hours and let me know that they weren’t able to help me in such a short timeframe, which I totally understood. The thing that caused me to write this review is that he went above and beyond what any other attorney or firm has done—he emailed me a few referrals as well as links to free legal advice and other resources! This shows me that this practice cares about helping people even if they’re not profiting from it. I will definitely call Blayre Peña in the future if God-forbid I’m up against another legal hurdle.

Theresa helped me through one of the most stressful times of my life when a complaint was filed on my professional license. She was thorough and extremely professional as she prepared me for what I had to face. She had never been before my particular licensing board and although they did not handle my case as other licensing boards normally do, she did not miss a beat. She presented my case with confidence and assertiveness. I know that had I chosen anyone else things would not have turned out as well as they did. She is a caring, compassionate attorney who goes the extra mile and then some so you will have the best possible outcome.

I worked with Theresa on a property damage case. Theresa was very forthright about our options and personally kept me updated throughout the process. Due in large part to her honest and personal approach, we were able to resolve the situation with a demand letter and avoided having to file suit. She has great command of the small details, and is careful and thoughtful in her approach.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Round Rock, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
