I had a very “special” case. My husband came to work in Texas and in June filed for divorce. I’m in NC, so I know nothing about Texas law and my attorney here in NC couldn’t help me with the Texas case. I called Texas law help, and they were able to help me file my special appearance and answer. I didn’t know that I was supposed to be the one to request a court date BC again I don’t live in Texas. On sept 9, I received notice that we were going to be in court on sept 23. I was VERY upset, BC 1- they didn’t give me a 30 day notice, 2- I’m disabled therefore don’t have money just laying around to book a last minute flight to Texas and hire an attorney. I had tried calling EVERY attorney in Floresville but NONE of them would call me back unless I wanted to pay $200 for an over the phone conversation, which I didn’t have. I started to look in San Antonio and a lot of attorneys there will do a free consultation first. But almost every one I talked to wanted at least $5000, and I knew the case couldn’t go thru in Texas BC I do not live there, my husband is only down there working & still has NC drivers license ect. My sister found Soyars &Morgan and I talked to Alma there. They agreed to take the case last minute and their fee was more reasonable than everyone else’s. At the time I thought we were doing a divorce hearing , but they told me it was a jurisdiction hearing. Alma was very nice and professional and always answered my questions via email in a timely fashion. I met Carla on Monday at the Wilson County Courthouse, she was very nice, helped me to calm down and assured me it was going to be ok. When we got before the judge was when I discovered they were trying to say I was the resident of Texas even though I left the state on 10/23/14 and had never been back. Carla was wonderful in front of the judge, and clearly stated our case , kept me calm, and read from the family law journal that clearly stated Texas didn’t have jurisdiction over me since I had never been a resident of Texas . She did try to get my attorney fees and travel costs back but the judge wouldn’t entertain that. My attorney here can hopefully get that back for me. I truly appreciate all the hard work they did on my case which was short notice but they were able to get the case in Texas dismissed. If you need someone who will stand up for the little guy I would suggest using them. Hopefully I won’t have to ever again, but I’d just like to thank Alma and Carla for the wonderful job they did on my case.

My first impression from this firm came solely from their parcel advertisement. The picture on the ad showed two professional, bold, and confident women with a written statement in bold lettering reading....... " We specialize in family assault charges " and being that women are statistically proven to be the victim extremely more times than men in cases of family violence, l figured I would get a genuine fair representation from them. Long story short, the counselor that the firm appointed to me ( Terry Carter ), presented all the evidence needed to have the state drop all charges against me in as little time as possible so that my family and I could get on with our lives. Believe it or not, people do sometimes get charged by the state for false accusations and you need very knowledgeable council to protect you from the very hungry State Prosecutor. I was charged with a DWI and I had a deadline to hire an attorney or get court appointed attorney. Was my first charge EVER, had no clue what to do or expect. I did my research, I googled top 50 attorneys in Bexar county and there she was, I did top 20, and there was Jodi, I did top 10, and there was Jodi AGAIN. Now call me bias, but I knew I wanted a female attorney, they work hard, they do the homework. I was so impressed with her questioning arresting officer, he must of been impressed with her too because all he could say was " I don't know". They wanted me to please guilty to obstruction of a highway, she called me and gave me options and I told her I wouldn't plead guilty to anything, to take to trial, so we did, but before trial started, charges were dropped due to lack of video evedince. Five police cars and nobody has video evedince? I doubt that. It was that they didn't have a case. Her aggressive style, her confidence, her knowledge on knowing the law, and professionalism was what won me my case. Had my charger removed from City, county, state, and country removed from my record. I've recommended two other friends who also hired her and she won those cases as well. There aren't enough adjectives to describe Jodi. I will forever be grateful to her and I would never consider any other attorney. You want to win, hire Jodi. If not, you'll get what you paid for. You'll get little if anything just to save money, I preferred paying for my freedom and freedom was what I got.
