Some of these reviews below are wild and most likely falsely written by competitors or anyone that has lost a case to Sergi & Associates. David, Tony, Kyler, and the rest of the team at their firm are beyond professional and ore than you could ever ask for from a legal team. Never hae questions gone unanswered, court appearance not been productive, communication not been responded to... There have been so many communications they could have charged me for, and did not, out of straight compassion for their clients. They will fight for you and are worth every penny you have.

I hired this firm to assist me with a legal matter. The woman I agreed to work with unfortunately passed away. Before she passed, we agreed on her services and a price, which was $900. I confirmed with her that $900 was the price for the entire case, which she agreed, and she was so sweet and reassuring! We signed a contract reflecting our agreement and that price. After she passed, I tried to show consideration and be patient with them to get back to my case, but after months of waiting and several polite inquiries, I got fed up with the continual promises to get back with me (that they had hired a new lawyer, etc), only for that to never happen. I know they were in a difficult and unplanned position, but I had already paid them a large retainer, and if they weren't planning to handle my case any time soon I simply wanted my money back so I could find someone who would. I finally called and got passed off to a male lawyer who informed me he was handling my case. Note that I had to keep working to even get that guy. I specifically stated that I wanted to work with a female several times, but that was ignored. He treated me like I was stupid and didn't know anything about my case or the agreements the previous lawyer and I had made for how the case would be handled. When I complained about his behavior, my unhappiness, not having a female to go to, and what was happening, I was told he was a "great lawyer" and I was in the wrong, he then tried to relate to me by saying he "watched the Barbie movie." After a month or so, I got an email demanding THOUSANDS of dollars more (literally over $3000, and that wasn't even the last bill I got). When I asked why, they told me that was his price. I never agreed to that, nor was I ever informed of this man's prices or that I would be charged anything more than what I originally agreed on. They, again, were rude and told me I had to pay them. I got on the phone with the main guy again who, to his credit, eventually told me he would only charge me $2000 for the whole thing. While I was still very upset, I agreed to the compromise just to get things done. But did the bills stop after?? NOPE! The lawyer then proceeded to further delay my case (which I was repeatedly scolded on complaining about), caused problems, and did not do what I asked. By the time he had FINALLY finished my paperwork, SIX more months had passed. He then told me he had filed all of my paperwork with the court and was waiting for a response. After several weeks and no response, I finally went over their heads and called the court house directly, only to learn he hadn't filed the paperwork until a couple of days before my call and it was to the wrong department. So the man blatantly lied to me AGAIN! AND YET, they were still sending me bills demanding more money. I called them furious, got the secretary, told her I refused to pay them anything more, and relayed how awful and unethical the entire experience was. She said she would pass it along, and I never even got so much as a phone call to apologize or take any accountability. Now, I am trying to sell my house and realized the stuff with the deed wasn't handled. When I called them, they informed me the lawyer that handled my case was "no longer working for them" and it had "slipped through the cracks" and if I wanted them to file the rest of the paperwork I would owe more money; so I just decided I would go file it myself. Once again, there was no follow-up phone call apologizing. No offer of any kind of refund. Nothing. Now, just because I've seen their replies to the other bad reviews claiming they "can't comment on the case" (while leaving passive aggressive comments), yet saying the review is "wrong" or "not real" etc, (because you're infallible, I guess, and everyone that has something negative to say about you is either lying or exaggerating just to what? Pick on you??) Please know this: I have several emails and screenshots proving what I am saying. I am a real former client. My first name on here isn't my legal first name, but it is what I go by. As a teenager, our daughter, as do many children of that age, made some poor choices. She was hanging with the wrong crowd and ended up drinking which lead to the involvement of law enforcement. We contacted Amanda Erwin and discussed the case. We immediately felt that she showed true compassion and understanding for our daughter's situation. We were very confident that her advice was in the best interest of our daughter. We scheduled an appointment to meet with Amanda and her husband, Josh. They were both wonderful! The sincerity they showed assured us that we were in the right place. Amanda and Josh took on this case as if it was their own child. They did what they said they would do. They fought for our daughter and had the felony charge reduced to a misdemeanor. Amanda advised us to have the charges expunged so that they would no longer appear on our daughter's record. So when it was time we hired Amanda to handle the expunction. Once again, we were extremely impressed with the way she handled the case. Amanda was adamant that this mistake should not follow our daughter around the rest of her life. She exceed our expectations threefold and we could not be more pleased with the outcome of the situation.

Charles represented a family member who was unjustly pulled over by a police officer. He went above and beyond to prove his innocence. He truly cares for his clients. He counseled my son and warned him about following the law. He is an exNavy officer and previously worked in law enforcement. So he knows all sides of the law and he is the most just man I have ever met. His courtroom savvy is incredible to watch. Mostly, it is his character, he is an honorable man who truly cares. He has years of experience and knows how to defend. There are other lawyers out there that might have great ratings cause they are young and work the social media but this is the lawyer you should hire. He has experience, commitment and justice on his side!

Ray and his staff were kind and understanding for the duration of my case. He was considerate of my situation and gave me the time I needed to prepare for my case in the best possible way. During that time he gave me several options making it very clear the pros & cons of each. When the time came he went line-by-line explaining the conditions of my case and the best way to proceed. He made me feel cared for and that he truly only wanted the best outcome for me. Highly recommended for all.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of San Marcos, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
