Highly Recommended! I had the pleasure of working with Mr. VanZant as well as Kendra, and I was incredibly impressed with their professionalism and expertise. From the very first consultation they took the time to thoroughly understand my case, offering clear advice and setting realistic expectations. Throughout the entire process, they kept me updated, communicated promptly, and answered all my questions in a way that was easy to understand. They demonstrated a deep knowledge of the law and showed genuine dedication to achieving the best possible outcome for me. Not only was Mr. VanZant and his staff an excellent advocate, but the fees were transparent, and I felt that I received great value for the service provided. In the end, Mr VanZant and his staff delivered a positive result that exceeded my expectations, and I couldn’t be more grateful. I would highly recommend them to anyone in need of legal services and would not hesitate to work with them again in the future!

My case was a little complicated but easy. We were trying to remove my niece from CPS custody. He went above and beyond to take our case because sometimes CPS cases can be a lot of hoops to jump through but it was super quick. Then we were able to get a TRO against the parents and temporary custody and now I have sole guardianship and he has now started the process for adoption for us. He has always been available even after hours if needed and worked with my schedule too. He responds quickly to emails and messages. Definitely will recommend him to others and use him again if we ever need him for the future.

I can't recommend Jackie VanZant enough! I called Jackie about a situation that was complicated and had me very stressed out. Jackie was honest, explained the options I had, and absolutely had my back in my case! I appreciate that he was always there when questions came up and didn't hesitate to answer in terms that I understood. Jackie was there every step of the way to help make the right decisions and ultimately win my case. I will use Jackie for all of my future legal issues! Thank you VanZant Law!

Pros
1
Effective and successful legal representation, achieving favorable outcomes for clients
“Jackie literally just sat there and focused on every single question and answer that my ex-wife was telling her lawyer (while she was on the stand). When it was Jackie's turn to cross-examine her, that was when the show began! Jackie caught her in several inconsistencies and it was great because FINALLY someone was asking her the right questions and putting a stop to the downright lies she had been saying about me!”
2
Personalized and compassionate approach, treating clients like family
“When talking to him it doesn't feel like you're talking to an attorney; it feels like you're talking with one of your closest friends. He cares about you as a person and wants to get you the best possible outcome of the situation.”
3
Strong communication and responsiveness to client needs
“He responds quickly to emails and messages. Definitely will recommend him to others and use him again if we ever need him for the future.”
4
Expertise in various legal areas including criminal defense, family law, and more
“Jackie has helped my family out in a criminal matter. He has always been honest, up front, and very informative.”
5
Reasonable and affordable legal fees
“Jackie was extremely knowledgeable and helpful with my case. Would recommend to anyone, very affordable as well!”
Cons
1
Difficulty reaching the attorney at times, slow response to calls and emails
“Sorry, unethical, does not even 'try' to fight for you. Looked him up on Texas bar association, he has a records of all these same actions. Guess he is not aware of " what goes around, comes back around".”
2
Inconsistency in client communication and follow-through
“This office is HORRIBLE. At returning calls, emails and any other kind of communication. I highly recommend you don't use this lawyer if you want actual help.”
3
Potential for neglecting certain cases or not providing adequate representation
“This man is a terrible lawyer never shows up for his clients or answers the phone or calls anyone back. Please spread it around how awful of a lawyer he is. My son had no representation for a case with CPS and now he is loosing his kids due to him not being there and doing his job court appointed or not!!!!”

James Fry is a man of integrity and is well respected in our community. I have used his services three times during the last four years, and he has always been successful in making sure the right thing was done for my family. From the first time I met James, he put me at ease. He is friendly and very approachable, and I know he genuinely cares about the well being of my family. He is a compassionate person, and yet clearly not afraid of a challenge, no matter how unpleasant it might be. I entrusted to him the well being of the two most precious things I have - my children, and James has gone to battle for them several times with their best interest in mind. I have and will continue to recommend him as an outstanding attorney.

When you see the words, "Family Law", the many thoughts that race through your head are endless. Whose family are we talking about, mine, the attorney or someone else's? After almost ten year's on a very difficult and demanding case, we now have his name in our dictionary under the heading "Family". Our family would highly recommend Mr. James Fry to anyone who is in need of an honest and professionaly respected attorney. We would also like to add that Mr. Fry could not have a more efficient and caring Legal Assistant than Ms. Donna Russell.

Michael C. Wynne represented my company regarding a defaulted promissory note that was due us. Mike & his law firm handled themselves in a very professional and ethical manner and were successful in getting the other party to perform on the note in a timely manner. The communications utilized throughout, both verbal and written, were timely, direct & well prepared yet also gave due consideration to the other party which, in my opinion, greatly helped with the negotiation process. I felt that the appropriate amount of time was applied towards my case to obtain resolution and appreciate that no one just “left the meter running” regarding legal charges. I can highly recommend Mr. Wynne and his law firm, Wynne & Smith, for any business related legal representation.

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Sherman, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
