I hired him because my ex was trying to get full custody of my children. I told him then I wanted to go for full custody for my son. We ended up in mediation the ex dropped the full custody and changed kids pick up time and address for pick. I asked him why can’t we just go for full custody and he said it’s because she did the modification and since she backed down I’m good. After signing I asked when can I go back for custody and child support he said wait about 6 months cause a Judge doesn’t like to see you too soon. Well it took them 5months to get the Judge signature and I decided to file myself to find out I have to wait a year later from the time the judge signed. The judge said I should have done all of that during the last modification. It didn’t make any difference if she filed the motion. I could gotten my son and child support increase last September. Mr. Brown knew that. I can’t go to the attorney general because I have to wait 3 years from the divorce. I can only use an attorney to get my child support that due and it’s hard to trust them after they take your money and curve the truth.

I can’t possibly write a stronger recommendation. Jimmie has helped me out twice in the past 15 years and got me outstanding results both times. He is no nonsense, blunt at times but and will tell you exactly what you need to do to protect yourself and win. Listen to him, follow his advise word for word, never doubt his strategy I assure you he’s several steps ahead of what you think will happen. While no nonsense, you can trust and feel his empathy for your situation and will aggressively resolve your issues in a timely manner and always was available for last minute questions, clarification or just to talk. Mr. Brown is the attorney you need to have when you're dealing with the legal system. He's brutally honest with you and he doesn't mince words. He keeps you informed and he isn't afraid to bring the fight to the opposition. When I first had to deal with the legal system I was scared of what could happen but he was able to remove all of my fears and assure me that everything was going to be okay. He told me that if he's not worried that I had nothing to worry about. He's kind, compassionate, and always available to answer any questions that you may have. He's the person that you want in your corner.

I can’t say enough about Vik Vij. He represented me as my court appointed lawyer and right off the bat I knew he takes his cases seriously. He told me things were going to go and they went exactly that way and got my case dismissed. Great lawyer and an even better human. I’m definitely keeping his info in case I need representation in the future.

Sheena from Shiloh Travel and Tours helped me with my OCI Application. She was very prompt and did everything fast. I am thrilled with this service. My friend uses them for her overseas travel and I will be using them too. I wouldn’t have been able to do this without their OCI support. Thank you so much.

Proof is in the Performance: We are US citizens, retired in Mexico with family and Medicare in Houston. I've headed Nasdaq & Asian public companies from Silicon Valley for 30+ years with significant legal teams. Now we are finally focused on ourselves and personal legal representation is at the forefront. Due to an emergency medical situation February 28, 2019, we arrived at 7pm in the Methodist Hospital ER and needed full legal help--- Wills, DNR, Hippa, Pwr of Atty, +. T-G, PLLC only had 24 hours to prepare all documents, come to the ER on a Cold and rainy night, bring a witness and a Notary Public and explain clearly ALL to us. WOW! Ms. Grubbs is a valued professional with an easy demeanor and total grasp of what's needed. We are most impressed, pleased with the documents and her personal caring service. Thank you Betsy.

When I was inundated with several pages of contract terms I didn't quite understand, I hired Teltschik-Grubbs. Betsy was very professional and deciphered all the "legal jargon" into something I could understand. She saw my contract term negotiations through to the end. I'm thankful I hired them cause I could have been at great risk on a "one-sided" contract.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Sugar Land, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
