With my friend's life hanging in the balance, this lawyer was assigned to her by the court. He didn't even go see her and dispel her fears. He didn't even called me back. He sends text messages like an unconcerned teenage child. His assistant is condescending with a pompous attitude. He must only care about a paycheck. But from the comments on the other site I guess he doesn't care about anything. Why are you even a lawyer? For those of us who are living paycheck to paycheck this so-called lawyer is a death sentence. When he did a video conference with my friend on February 12 he threatened her with 20 years in prison. With lawyers like that who needs the prosecution? He found out that another lawyer was hired and rescinded her bail reduction hearing to reduce the half a million dollar bail put on her without proper cause. You didn't need to do that. Which only shows how much of a creep you really are. When people's lives are at stake you can't just pretend the issue will go away and neglect your oath. We need capable, effective attorneys that talk to us and help us. Where is your compassion? Where is your sense of Duty? Show us that you are competent. Help us believe in a system that many claim isn't broken. Fight for your client. Be the champion we need you to be in our time of distress

Hired Mike after my ex started a custody battle. DRAMA of all sorts ensued and he has handled it all! From bogus criminal charges to the various dramas of the custody battle(s). The ex's drama through all this resembles something more befitting a Lifetime TV Movie! If he can handle this situation he can handle yours . He's effective, incredibly knowledgeable, and aggressive. He's going to stand up for you. He won't sugar coat things and tells it to you straight. I've never felt like "just another client" they actually care. I can't imagine going through any of this with any other attorney. If you find yourself facing a contentious divorce custody battle or ANY criminal charge you want this guy and his team on your side! Worth every penny!

Mr White represented my son that was wrongfully accused of murder and a NOT guilty verdict from the jury was a blessing! My son was bullied by the authorites to give them a confession and Mr. White beat that!

What a great experience with the way I was treated when I called the Law Office of Marc Whitehead & Associates. I was very hesitant to call. I was relieved and so happy for the great service that I receive from Marisol Castro. She was very patient and explained the process. I needed to get some extra information and Ms Castro responded to every text and phone call promptly. I look forward to continue to work with this office if the rest of my experience is anything like how Ms Castro treated me.

Melissa is amazing! Her experience in Bell County courts is outstanding and she is tough in the courtroom. I have won every motion, even those filed against me. Melissa at Blanchard & Thomas knows the law inside and out and I couldn't feel more confident with my contested divorce case. With family and business at stake, hiring Melissa gave me a huge sense of relief and reduced my anxiety ten-fold. Melissa made this a winning situation for my entire family!

Melissa was referred to me by a family friend after I had contacted two others in the area. I sought a divorce attorney that was familiar with Military families and the different regulations that get mixed up with a civilian divorce. After our initial consultation, I knew I found the one that would be worth every stressful thought and pinched penny. Melissa is very knowledgeable and patient when explaining "legal-ese" concerning the process and progress of the case. Despite knowing that all of her time spent on matters of my case is compensated, I never once felt that my case was only a source of income. She always went above and beyond to accommodate my concerns and questions. I never felt as if I was being an inconvenience and her quick responses via phone and email was a reassurance that my case was just as important for her as for me. Melissa is genuine and addressed all I needed and things I did not know I needed. I am thankful for her and she will be highly recommended to all of those in my circle that are looking for an attorney.

We were in an auto accident several years ago when a large truck hit our mini can at high speeds causing a back injury and eventually a surgery. Even though we were not at fault, the insurance company would not help out with medical bills and time off work. We decided we needed a lawyer and we contacted John Frances. That was the best decision we could of ever made. He went above and beyond in helping us. Anytime we called his office, he returned our call immediately and kept us informed and up to date. He made sure we were taken care of. He had the insurance company pay for the medical bills, the surgery and we were reimbursed for lost wages and bills that accumulated. He's a man of his word and he did a fantastic job.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Temple, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
