This Lawyer and his firm are the epitome of a "sleeze bag" lawyer. He will charge you for every thing you could think of while your case sits stagnant for two years. Never accomplishing anything, unprepared, and will have minimal contact with u. They demand additional fees while double charging you for miscellaneous and frivolous charges. Please do not hire this lawyer as you will be financially destroyed, never see your day in court, and very disappointed in his performance and extreme billing practices.

Don’t even know where to start this review. I will say if I could give a negative rating I would. Please please please AVOID this “firm” at all costs. I hired this company in December of 2022, I spoke with a gentleman at the firm who I really liked and felt comfortable with so I decided to hire them. Weeks go by, I hear nothing, I finally reach out to find the attorney I spoke with was no longer with the firm so I then got stuck with Mr. Tisdale, the head of the firm. My first thought was ok good that might be good since it’s his own law firm. Nope. Wrong. Again, weeks and weeks go by. Every time I spoke with Tisdale it was me getting in contact. The weirder part was every time I talked to someone on my case I was working with a different paralegal every single time. Each time I talked to them, I would have to re explain my case over and over. I eventually got fed up with NOTHING happening on my case so I called Ebony who works the front desk. This woman, the worst. She is SO rude and would lie every time I spoke to her. Eventually to the point I wanted to see if she would lie right to my face, I asked about a court date which I knew wasn’t scheduled since I talked to the county. She flat out said “oh yeah we booked the date for you, I don’t have it front of me but I’ll get it to you” lies. She finally could tell how frustrated I was becoming so I eventually got my FIRST phone call with Mr. Tisdale in May of 2023. We started talking about my divorce which included children. I started talking about my kids to which he responds “oh I thought you only have one” WHAT. How does my own lawyer not even know how many dependents are involved in my case. He got my name wrong, my kids names wrong etc. When I say it was a hot mess, that is an understatement. Long story short, that was the one and only time I talked to him. The only time the law firm ever reached out to me was for bills and telling me to pay them more $. I spent thousands of dollars on this attorney for them to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Not a single court case, date scheduled, seriously nothing. I eventually dropped them and hired a new attorney. I showed my new attorney everything that happened to which he worded “wow, they took crazy advantage of you. They did absolutely nothing for you.” I’m writing this review in hopes of others seeing this and avoiding using this law firms “services” so you don’t have to go through what I did with them. You will be screwed out of lots of money. Run far, far away.

Listen. This man had my boyfriend in court fighting his own battle and defending himself after paying $15,000+ dollars in fees. Every time he called to see what was going on, nobody could give him an answer about what was being done on his behalf. Not only that, the rate changed every single time he called. One moment he owed $1400 and then the next they said $3k. We drove 15hrs to Texas because they didn’t even file the necessary documents for him to be able to attended the hearing via video call. Not to mention the first hearing of family court, the attorney only showed up with his phone. Not a single piece of evidence that was given to the attorney for court. Unprepared and OVER paid!!! JUST DONT.

What a great experience with the way I was treated when I called the Law Office of Marc Whitehead & Associates. I was very hesitant to call. I was relieved and so happy for the great service that I receive from Marisol Castro. She was very patient and explained the process. I needed to get some extra information and Ms Castro responded to every text and phone call promptly. I look forward to continue to work with this office if the rest of my experience is anything like how Ms Castro treated me.

Melissa is amazing! Her experience in Bell County courts is outstanding and she is tough in the courtroom. I have won every motion, even those filed against me. Melissa at Blanchard & Thomas knows the law inside and out and I couldn't feel more confident with my contested divorce case. With family and business at stake, hiring Melissa gave me a huge sense of relief and reduced my anxiety ten-fold. Melissa made this a winning situation for my entire family!

Melissa was referred to me by a family friend after I had contacted two others in the area. I sought a divorce attorney that was familiar with Military families and the different regulations that get mixed up with a civilian divorce. After our initial consultation, I knew I found the one that would be worth every stressful thought and pinched penny. Melissa is very knowledgeable and patient when explaining "legal-ese" concerning the process and progress of the case. Despite knowing that all of her time spent on matters of my case is compensated, I never once felt that my case was only a source of income. She always went above and beyond to accommodate my concerns and questions. I never felt as if I was being an inconvenience and her quick responses via phone and email was a reassurance that my case was just as important for her as for me. Melissa is genuine and addressed all I needed and things I did not know I needed. I am thankful for her and she will be highly recommended to all of those in my circle that are looking for an attorney.

We were in an auto accident several years ago when a large truck hit our mini can at high speeds causing a back injury and eventually a surgery. Even though we were not at fault, the insurance company would not help out with medical bills and time off work. We decided we needed a lawyer and we contacted John Frances. That was the best decision we could of ever made. He went above and beyond in helping us. Anytime we called his office, he returned our call immediately and kept us informed and up to date. He made sure we were taken care of. He had the insurance company pay for the medical bills, the surgery and we were reimbursed for lost wages and bills that accumulated. He's a man of his word and he did a fantastic job.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Temple, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
