I hired Amy for my custody dispute of my 3 children. I could not have picked a better lawyer to handle my case. She was very upfront and informative of how the process would be and left no questions or worries unanswered. Through the process all of my paperwork was filed very timely. She was always prompt on answering or returning my calls. She was there for me time and time again. My case took many twists and turns where she had to fight false allegations in multiple counties from my ex. She stood by my side and helped me through all of it. I would highly recommend her to anyone who wants an amazing lawyer to represent them. I have already recommended her to others going through similar situations. Not only would I choose her time and time again, I feel I gained a friend as well.

Amy served as my attorney for the original divorce as well as for additional modifications to the decree. My top ten list of what I most like about Amy: 1) Amy is highly knowledgeable about all aspects of family law. 2) She takes the high road and urges her clients to do the same for the best interests of the children. 3) Amy follows through and gets paperwork done in a timely manner. 4) She treats clients and everyone else involved in a respectful and non-condescending manner. 5) She realizes divorce is a death and respects the grief process that her clients and their children are going through. 6) She actually responds to phone calls and emails in a timely manner and never leaves you hanging. 7) She is tough in a classy way when the situation demands it (in the courtroom or out of it). 8) She does not over-bill clients for services. 9)Amy helps you set realistic expectations about negotiating with the other party. 10)I have referred friends as well as my own clients to Amy and she has given everyone great service.

Amy Montgomery represented me in my divorce, modification and adoption. Her professionalism was above and beyond anything I could have imagined. The divorce was very cut and dry so when I filed for a modification, I decided to hire another attorney in town. That was a mistake. I was not pleased with his performance and I went back to Amy. She took care of everything. My husband and I recently adopted a little girl and Amy handled everything beautifully. Not only is Amy a well educated and knowledgeable attorney, her compassion and honestly are amazing. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Mrs. Montgomery for any type of family law matter that you may be going through.

The last year of my life has been a living hell! Amy, and the staff that she works with, have been a small piece of heaven. Amy first and formost gave me sound legal advice, which is what I paid her to do!!. This does not mean she always told me what I wanted to hear, this was a DIVORCE!! I felt totally informed on every decision that was made. If you put all the legal and formal issues to the side I can say I felt 100% that Amy cared. My feelings were that the kids came first with every decision and after that I wanted to be treated fairly. Amy totally agreed and we moved forward with this goal. We fought and struggled thru every issue with a common focus. Sometimes I think she was fighting with me but that's what I was paying her to do. Anything less and she would have been stealing my money with faulty service. Over the last year Amy has been my lawyer, my counselor, my therapist, my adviser but most of all, I can call Amy my friend!! I will go back to her in a heartbeat!! Amy, I hope I never HAVE to see you again but I hope I GET to see you often!!

Engaged the law office of Todd Lehn to help me with a traffic ticket that I believe was not right. They were extremely courteous, got on it right away and kept me informed of what was happening. They got my ticket dismissed quickly and without any frustration I would HIGHY recommend Todd Lehn PLLC for any legal help or advice.

Todd and his LA Tamara were fantastic. Even on such a low level ticket I was given, they treated it seriously and gave me all the attention it needed. More importantly, they really knew their stuff and ended up getting the ticket dismissed. They kept me informed throughout the process and were able to answer any questions i had. I'll definitely be using this office again if it's needed.

From the first phone call, I knew that we had made the right choice. With this said, I am not a trusting person by nature, especially when it is difficult to conduct business face-to-face, due to covid. I have spent the past (3) months talking and emailing back and forth with Mr. Mussalli with regards to my situation...without ever being able to look into his eyes and make a decision on his trustworthiness. Mr. Mussalli guided my wife and I through this difficult situation with my business. He propped us up when we were feeling unstable, he pushed us along when our stubbornness began to take hold, and all the while keeping his calm and encouraging us to do the same. He did all of this with the many obstacles that we are all facing, but with illness within his own family as well. As I have now read his other 5-Star reviews here, it appears that this was not a one-off situation. While our circumstances were different than all of the other reviews, our encounter was exactly the same. To put a bow on it...in our eyes, Matt Mussalli is a Fantastic Person First and an Accomplished Lawyer Second! Very easy to talk to, extremely fair and transparent on billing, and really knows how to listen to your needs...as well as manage your expectations. I don't ever want to "need" Mr. Mussalli again, but I will not hesitate to contact him if needed and I would recommend him to ANYONE who is in need of an intelligent, compassionate friend, who happens to also be a Great Lawyer! We cannot thank him enough!!!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of The Woodlands, Texas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
