Mr. McDonald was referred to me by a friend who was also a client of his. Dan helped me through a difficult situation of a business partnership force-out (I was the one forced out). His expertise in this area resulted in sound advice to me, impressive case research, and strong-but tactful and precisely articulated communication to the opposing parties that helped position me well if we had continued to court, which we didn't. My worries and fears were allayed as I experienced his concern for me and his passion about the situation. I felt he went to battle for me and had my best interest at heart which helped me to let go and focus on the road ahead which was crucial. I am a real estate investor specializing in single family homes. Following the real estate/mortgage industry crash in 2007-2008 the federal government passed several new laws in an attempt to more closely regulate the industry. One of those laws is called the Dodd/Frank Act. It is a very confusing piece of legislation which not only contradicts itself but other laws as well, yet it carries severe penalties if it is violated. I hired Daniel McDonald to review my business model to ensure that I was complying with this complicated legislation. He gave me some excellent advice, a few suggestions on how to tweak what I was doing to ensure compliance, and a three page legal opinion letter relevant to my business and this new law. Dan was hired to advise the South Ogden City council and staff on updates to the city's land use ordinances related to Group Homes, Fair Housing and ADA. Dan was very competent in his legal understanding of these complex legal issues. His experience having litigated and advised clients on both sides of these issues was a great advantage. Additionally, Dan presented creative alternatives for the city to consider as we worked through our ordinance updates.
