I can’t say enough good things about The Park Firm. From day 1 I was welcomed in and treated with respect. Throughout the entire divorce process Jim was very knowledgeable and focused on my case. The #1 thing that I can say that blew me away about the park firm is that Jim was always concerned and watching out for how much this was costing me. He didn’t request or review any unnecessary documents form my Ex’s attorney. Jim knew what I was wanting for an end result and stuck to the plan. Didn’t contact me unnecessarily and therefore saved me a bunch of money on this particular case. The girls working behind the scenes in the office were very knowledgeable and always willing to answer questions. Very quick to respond. I can not say enough good things about The Park Firm. Highly recommended, and I will use them for all of my future needs.

Went through the Park firm for my divorce. I had an unusual situation and The park Firm was amazing! I needed Treyson to be my voice because I was too scared to stand on my own. Which he did I never made me feel small about it. Treyson was always proactive with things that needed to be done. Took a long time waiting for the other side to do the things that they needed to do. Which made me appreciate even more that my lawyer was on top of all the things he could be. The receptionists were very kind, ynderstanding, knowledgeable and were able to answer many questions I had about my case. Not only do I highly recommend this firm, but I recommend anybody going through a bad situation to retain a lawyer. It's a lot easier to start off with one who will stand for you and protect you, then try to change legalities later.

My dad has used Jim Park for many years so he’s the first person my dad referred me to when dealing with child custody! He was so helpful and got me in super quick to get things taken care of. Would recommend to anyone!

Trey Park is absolutely one of the best! With his expertise and the entire Park Firm there’s nobody that can represent you better! Not your typical attorney and very easy to talk to when navigating through all the ins and outs that come with legal process!

We used The Park Firm to help with our custody case and they have been nothing short of amazing. Jim has been there to answer any questions from the beginning and continues to after mediation has ended. He made us feel heard and made everything understandable when custody wording can be quite difficult to understand. I will 1,000% recommend The Park Firm to anyone who needs an attorney who knows what they are doing. Thank you!

He was very thorough and helpful with putting together my trust. My husband had just passed away at age 36 and I was in no way able to plan for the worst in case something happened to me. Tyler walked me through it and made all the arrangements to get my trust finalized. He even assisted with some checks that came in my husband's name that I was unable to deposit since his name was no longer on my account. I would highly recommend him and if I EVER need legal services again I will definitely use him. He even helped answer some contractual law questions I had for my son. For which he never charged me for. He is great.

I contacted Tyler last year to do a living trust, to me it seemed very complex because I am a business owner, property owner and have various other assets like cars and equipment. Tyler to all the time needed to explain how the trust works and and options that I should consider, the end result is what I consider a highly professional family trust that puts my mind at ease knowing this was done by a lawyer who not only specializes in wills and trusts but truly cares that it is done properly. Tyler is very "hands on", no dealing with a paralegal here.

E.Jay Overson is a fantastic lawyer. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable, but he is also there for his clients 100%. Mr Overson was very timely in his response to my questions and what he what services he was able to provide. He went out of his way to help me with the knowledge I needed to complete my probation. He is friendly and talks on my level of understanding and told me what he COULD do instead of what he can't help me with. He explained all the steps I needed to do in a helpful way. He was a great help.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Cedar City, Utah?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
