I decided to use a mediation practice to draft the divorce paperwork and have the Cowdin & Gatewood team review the paperwork prior to signing. I met with Jake Cowdin today and am SO GRATEFUL that I did. On our Zoom call, we went item by item and I was given invaluable advice. Even though the paperwork was drafted by someone else, Jake maneuvered the language expertly. Essentially, what my ex and I agreed on in mediation was fine, but the language in the settlement left us both open to problems 5, 10, and even 30 (!!!) years down the road. Jake caught these holes with an eagle's eye and gave me word-for-word guidance on what to change it to. The Zoom call lasted one hour and 20 minutes, and it was jam-packed from start to finish. A few hundred bucks today just saved me tens-of-thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of dollars over the course of my lifetime... LITERALLY. To be honest, agreeing to an amicable divorce settled in mediation was the best thing for my situation. But I have received cautionary advice from dozens and dozens of women who used mediation and later regretted it. After meeting with Cowdin & Gatewood's team (their support staff was amazing to work with via email), I feel like I got the best of both worlds. An amicable mediation experience and an amazing lawyer watching out for me. And if something does come up in the future, I know who I am calling.

I had no experience in family law and needed a lot of direction and advice and Jake had all the answers I needed and did an amazing job. Couldn’t be happier with how awesome of a job he did and would not hesitate to recommend him or his partner to anyone.

Jake has been incredible I'm helping me obtain a protective order after years of DV, drafting a clear and easily understandable divorce petition, and prioritizing my concerns in regards to custody.
