Sage law should not have an attorney Like Charles Ahlstrom. Violates all ethics rules. Constantly lies to clients. Takes things personal and has no principles and clear path when dealing with cases. Also wearing a bow tie to hearings is unprofessional!

Negotiating the family court system is something i never wanted to do. I can’t imagine anyone being prepared for such a gut wrenching experience. With that being said Charles Ahlstrom helped me through the process and guided me to put my best foot forward at every step. I would recommend Charles to anyone needing a great lawyer to help through such a painful time. Charles was always upfront with me on my position. My situation turned out good and that’s pretty great considering it was divorce and custody case. I was very grateful to have Charles with me through the courts Charles and Kellie make a great team and work together to supply answers and put some of the tension at ease. I sympathize with anyone going through family courts but it’s important to be going in with someone you can trust.

Our case was given to Mr. Ahlstrom when our previous lawyer passed & this turned out to be the biggest mistake of our lives!! He called us 3 days before our court date & asked why we hadn't sent him a response to the documents that he sent us regarding the upcoming court date....we didn't received said documents until after he called us asking why we hadn't responded to them. The stack of documents he sent us (3 days before court) were as thick as an Ogden phone book & then he said that he needed us to write a response to this stack of documents by the next morning so that he could file it with the court in time! My wife sat up until 4am writing our response to said documents & sent our response to Charles. We were then charged several hundred dollars for his paralegal to type our response verbatim what my wife had written!! We ultimately lost custody & thousands of dollars to Mr. Ahlstrom...who literally did nothing he said he was going to do!! Worst experience with a lawyer ever!

If you ever need a really good lawyer. I would strongly suggest Nathan Carroll. He got me off not only 1 case, but 6! He knows what he is doing in the court room, and also takes notes, so he is really prepared for your sentencing date. If I ever need another reliable lawyer, again. I am going back to Nathan!!

It’s hard to put into words what a great job Nathan Carroll has done for my son! He knows the law. I highly recommend using him on any case. I don’t know how my son could’ve gotten through this without his help.

Jason is hands down the best lawyer! I had an extremely rare case. Jason genuinely cared about what I was going through. He was straightforward, trustworthy, level headed and made me feel confident. He is personable, professional, thorough, and worth every penny. I had a good experience working with him and got the outcome we were hoping for.

My son had a DUI charge and In short Mr. Neely had the case reduced to a careless driving ticket without going to trial. Superb lawyer. He literally saved my sons life in my opinion. Glen is worth every dollar he charges.

I received a DUI in Lehi. What a horrible and demoralizing experience. I contacted Glen because of his good representation. I am glad I did. He went through every aspect of the case and challenged the probable cause to arrest me. Glen’s cross examination of the cop was excellent. He showed how the officer did everything wrong. By the time Glen was done, the judge didn’t hesitate to completely dismiss the case. Thank you Glen. I would not hesitate to recommend Glen.

  3. Who will be handling my case?

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Ogden, Utah?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
