Ron has been my attorney for a little over two years as I navigated a highly contentious divorce. I’ve also worked with his associate, Jennifer closely and often. They have been an absolute dream team. They have always looked out for the best interest of my kids and I and did everything in their power to get us through this process and into a better place so we can heal and move forward. They were always prepared, listened to my experiences and concerns, explained things well, and were often available quickly when situations would arise unexpectedly but needed attention. Ron is wonderful at balancing the line of keeping peace and avoiding conflict when possible, but being aggressive and an advocate when he needs to be. Every time we were in court he was prepared, quick with information and answers, and aware of even the smallest details of my case. I had complete confidence in him in the courtroom, which brought me some peace in very stressful situations. Jennifer is adept in the legal world and has always been able to answer my questions and help me understand the process. But the most beautiful thing about her is she can do that while still holding space for compassion and empathy for the ways this experience affects a person emotionally. That’s not an easy combination to find in an attorney. Ron and Jennifer saw me as a person, not just as another one of their many clients. They trusted me as much as I trusted them and believed in me during the times it was hard for me to believe in myself. They guided me with great legal advice while still allowing me to trust my gut, they always had my back. As things are finally coming to a close, I am infinitely grateful that I had them in my corner during the hardest part of my life. Heritage Law lived up to its name, because the ways they helped me and my kids will undoubtedly have a positive ripple effect in our family for many generations to come.

Before we hired Ron Wilkinson we read reviews and wondered if the poor reviews were credible since they seemed so different compared to the good reviews. Well, after experiencing Ron Wilkinson firsthand for ourselves, we can confirm the poor reviews about him are credible. When we had our consultation, Ron told us quote, “I can probably get this case resolved with one phone call.” And he said that we would get the rest of our “retainer back to spend on Christmas.” We understood it wasn't a guarantee but that it was a good probability he could get the case resolved with one promised phone call since that is what he told us. Ron never made that promised phone call. We emailed him and called the office countless times over the next 6 weeks. We did not receive replies to our emails or any callbacks. We finally scheduled a phone call in advance to speak with Ron, which costs almost $400 an hour. We asked Ron if he made that one phone call yet that he promised us. He seemed surprised we remembered him promising he would make this phone call and that he probably could get this case resolved on that one phone call and that we expected him to make that call. He said the individual he was going to call was hard to get a hold of. We did not believe he was telling us the truth. Another time opposing counsel sent us a very harassing email on a Thursday filled with lies and threatening sanctions (court fines) against us if we didn't reply by Monday. We called Ron's office, we emailed Ron and forwarded onto him the harassing email. Ron never called us back, never emailed us back. We made it clear this was an emergency and we heard nothing but crickets. We had to reply to the email ourselves and represent ourselves in order to get the email back to this other unprofessional attorney by Monday. It is almost impossible to communicate with Ron. He does not reply to emails or return phone calls. If you want to talk on the phone, you have to schedule a call weeks in advance for almost $400 an hour. But there are times when emergencies or situations arise that you need a relatively quick response. Then when you do get a rare chance to talk to him, it's very difficult to bring up your concerns to him as he gets easily triggered and he has a short temper. Ron even told us he gets easily triggered. We were scared to say anything to him. Ron often engages in manipulative gas-lighting techniques where he creates a false narrative and tries to place the blame for his irresponsible actions onto us and blame us for his bad actions. As one example he would accuse us of not listening when Ron is the one who was not listening to us. The ultimate betrayal was when Ron falsely told the court we agreed to things which we absolutely did NOT agree to. Ron or his office also engage in falsifying their bills. As one specific example we were charged $720 for witnesses being served subpoenas. However only 4 witnesses were subpoenaed at a cost of $18.50 each which would be a total of $74, not $720. When we point this out to both Ron and his office asking them what is going on with the billing, we again receive no response. We also had to do a lot of babysitting. We had to constantly call and email over and over and over to make sure things are getting done. For example, we called multiple times about correctly scheduling something. We were finally told there were about 5 dates to choose from and we would get a call back to get our permission to schedule the time and place. About a week goes by with no one calling us back. So we have to call into the office again. And we are told that the thing was scheduled without ever talking to us. And this thing was scheduled at a time we could NOT make and at a place we clearly did NOT agree to. So we have to spend more time and more money getting it rescheduled and fixed to the correct place. In short, instead of us being properly represented, there were multiple times we were misrepresented by our own counsel.

I can’t believe I never wrote this! 3 years ago now, Ron and Nate helped me with my divorce/custody case. Ron always made me feel comfortable and was realistic about what my expectations should be. I am so glad I had these guys in my corner and would recommend them to anyone who asked. They’re extremely knowledgeable and hardworking, and just what I needed at that low point in my life.

Top Dollar for minimal effort. Ron was often in court and unavailable unless a call was scheduled a week in advance. When I approached him about his unavailability, he replied telling me was getting daily correspondence from his legal aid. I asked numerous questions that were left unanswered. The lack of legal guidance drew out my divorce and left me alone to make decisions I wasn't comfortable making. If you are looking for legal advice, Ron isn't your guy. If you are looking for someone to push paper work you can find a Lawyer at a lower cost. **Update on my review. I spoke with Ron and we went over some specifics from my case. It was unfair of me to neglect to mention the good parts of my experience with Heritage Law. My paralegal was kind and really showed up in her effort to help me. And when things got rough we were able to make it to a safe place. I switched Lawyers after I asked several questions that remained unanswered and I didn’t get the Response that I felt I needed to make educated decisions. When I switched Lawyers I did find one who was much more available and would jump on calls with me and I felt like he really put effort in knowing my case. Both wanted to push for mediation which is very expensive and where most cases end. You will have to pay for your lawyer fees and the mediator and it will likely take minimum half a day. In my case I needed advice and direction, and Ron didn’t fill that need. However, I did sit in court and I saw him in action, from what I could tell he is very competent and well versed. If you know your case is going to be a big deal and you need really good representation Ron will probably do great. If you need advice and someone to walk you through the process, I would look up Brown Family Law, they helped me find my other lawyer and the emails they sent me were the most helpful of all. Also, if you are required to take classes, take them early, those were super helpful as well. I wish I would have taken them earlier.

Blake is not only my friend and my co-worker, but he is also my attorney. As a co-worker, I have seen him fight tooth and nail to provide justice to those who have been injured by another's neglect. I have seen him put himself in his client's shoes and become personally invested in each and every case. I have seen him work countless hours researching and taking notes and bouncing ideas off of colleagues to make sure he's representing his client's in the best way possible. As my attorney, I have personally witnessed his attention to detail in every aspect of my case. I have felt his sincere desire to represent me as best he can by making himself knowledgeable about brain injuries and carbon monoxide. Even through my shortcomings, he takes the time to explain things to me and make sure I understand everything and feel comfortable and confident every step of the way. As my friend, I have felt his unwavering support while my family and I struggle through this long and exhausting process. He has seen my tears, my frustrations, my hopes and my fears as I have dealt with doctor after doctor and appointment after appointment. I would recommend Blake to any one that I know who has been injured by someone else's neglect.

I have two cases with Blake and I feel very confident in his ability to help me with either of them. He has a different approach to each of them and is equally invested in both of them. I know that Blake will fight for me.

My wife and I have hired Mr. Turner to not only assist us to setup our Trust, Wills, etc, he has also helped us craft an Asset Protection Blueprint/strategy for our businesses, investments and personal assets. He is able to communicate clearly and effectively with us as we've had questions and brought in our tax attorney, insurance agent & accountant for consultation, guidance and planning. Only positive experiences and reasonably priced for the quality of services. We've sent family to him for their "Asset Protection Blueprint" plans & implementations as well.

Hands down, Kenny Christiansen and Mindi Bartlam are a fantastic team. Although my case was complex and trying, they fought and held my hand through every step. Kenny and Mindy are professional and knowledgeable, and they made it feel more personal and considerate of the sensitive nature of our case. Kenny and Mindi have become more than excellent representations; I dare to call them friends.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Orem, Utah?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
