To put it simply she was amazing . Very diligent in her work. I had went threw five different lawyers before coming to her and I wish I would of not wasted my time with all the others and she would of been first.

I received a misdemeanor citation for possession of marijuana. Never was in trouble with the police before. Ann focused on resolving the problem without fuss. She knew the city prosecutor well. Got me a plea in abeyance so no conviction occurred. She returns phone calls and emails promptly. Definitely going to have Ann handle the expungement.

I had scheduled an appointment with another attorney at this firm, but he was unable to make the appointment. Ann was there and offered to consult with me. During the consultation I could see the heart felt concern on her face as I explained my situation. That compassion that she showed during our initial contact and the professional direct manner in which she spoke and carried herself; instantly gave me confidence that I could utilize the justice system for a favorable outcome. She didn't sugar coat or make promises about anything. During the next several months she consistently showed me her hard work and perseverance to obtain the best possible outcome. During this time she not only provided outstanding legal advice, but sound personal advice as well. Through her hard work and dedication to my case I was able overcome some legal obstacles and feel that I received the best possible outcome pursuant to the legal code. I would definitely recommend her services to any person in need and will utilize her skills again, if needed.

Ann was exceptionally adroit at negotiating the sometimes terrifying minefield that is the criminal justice system, particularly in negotiating her way through multiple jurisdictions and charges. Not only did she always provide us with a comprehensive picture - warts and all - of the situation(s) involving our son, complete with the sought-after outcomes measured against the realistic outcomes, but was absolutely dogged in his defense. Oftentimes, her comprehensive knowledge of not only the system but the personalities of the judges and prosecutors saved the day in what would have been otherwise undesirable end-results. She was not only absolutely reliable in every one of numerous appearances - not always the case with attorneys - but she was also available during evenings, weekends and holidays when problematic situations arose. Not only was she highly personable but sincerely interested in our son's defense even to the point of making us feel as if we were in Utah every step of the way (we live in Alabama) by constant communication whenever an issue or opportunity arose. She is very bright, imaginative, aggressive, the perfect mixture of velvet glove and a steel fist, with integrity and dedication far beyond what I've experienced in over forty years of professional dealings with criminal as well as business lawyers in Federal and State environments. She is an absolute credit to BrownBradshaw and Moffitt. Having enjoyed the exceptional assistance of Jim Bradshaw in some aspects in these cases, I feel confident in saying that this kind of professionalism permeates the entire firm - from the attorneys to the office professionals. I firmly believe that the surprising and unexpected leniency of the courts was directly attributable to her competency and professionalism; the fact that our son is on a much better track now owes largely to her interventions not only in his case but in his life. Thanks again Ann; thanks again Jim!!

We went into the case knowing the exact outcome I wanted and she didn't stop until we got that outcome. I went from being charged with a DUI to getting off with a traffic violation. Every time I emailed her she always responded and informed right away once she heard news from Judge or Prosecutor. If you are looking for lawyer that is fighting for you and not for the fact that she will get paid for it, then Ann is who you need to go to.

My company was contacted by a private equity firm who made an unsolicited, written offer for our company. It was a fair price, offered at a time my partner was looking to retire. Our business lawyer recommended Brent Hawkins to represent us through the acquisition. Brent was very expert and insightful and helped negotiate a better agreement and price than had been initially proposed. We’re satisfied nothing was left undone and that we were well represented.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Salt Lake City, Utah?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
