Like many, divorce was something I never expected to confront in my life. Finding an attorney that resonated with me turned out to be difficult to find. After paying for a number of initial consultations, I appreciated Jim's candor with me and interest in being a partner in this process. He was straightforward with me, taught me about the process and was very responsive and innovative in his approach. Jim and his staff were willing to work with me on my terms and to customize a settlement plan without the lengthy court process and to also customize his retainer and billing to accommodate what I wanted to achieve. He was willing to roll with the process and we reached a very quick settlement that saved both sides a lot of money and time. The most impressive part of this process, however, was what happened when the settlement was called into question by the other side. This is when Jim's work and advice to me really paid off. Although it cost me some extra money to defend the settlement agreement, Jim was right there with me, confident and willing to stick to the work we had done. I appreciated, again, his candor with me and his clear instruction and transparency which all saved me costs without compromising the strength of our original work. Jim's careful attention to detail, his well-researched advice, and his very impressive letter of opposition and counter motion made the original settlement stick and hold solid. Jim is an innovative lawyer and a straight talker and his work has proved to stand the test of time for me in my situation. I highly recommend him and his team.

Jim seemed competent in our initial meeting and I hired him. That is when the problems started. It turns out he was dishonest about things relating to how the firm bills and operates. He did not say so in our initial meeting or when he charged my card for the retainer, but all of a sudden he wanted someone else as collateral if I didn't pay my bills. I gave him no indication that I was not good for the money and I did not feel comfortable asking anyone else to take on that role. I have met with several other lawyers and never been asked for another person to bill. So we parted ways. AND Now that I have another attorney, I am finding that a lot of what he said wasn't correct and his plan of action included a lot of fluff work that didn't need to be done but did help increase the bill. Would not recommend.

I spent over $50k on lousy attorneys before hiring Jim. He doesn't have a huge online presence, because he doesn't push it. He has enough business without google. I don't review anyone or anything, but feel I'm doing Salt Lake City a favor here. Jim Hunnicutt is the best attorney I've ever worked with. Brilliant, compassionate, driven to win. Jim wins. Every single motion, petition, or hearing has gone in my favor. He fights, reasonably. He understands the courts, and is well connected in the local legal community. Jim is a good human. He talks me down when I am overzealous. He is patient, and deeply compassionate. It's hard to find competitive people who also retain their humanity. That's what you want in a lawyer. Jim is this. Hire him while he still charges less than $400/hr.

Having someone that can, with confidence and backed by expertise, lay out a plan of action, (even including the unknowns and variables that are a part of any legal proceedings) was a tremendous comfort and safe harbor, especially during a time of such immense turmoil and uncertainty. Fast-forward a few years. After several ridiculous and fruitless court actions, (all of which needlessly initiated by my ex-husband) I can say with complete certainty, that Jim's knowledge of the law coupled with his zero drama/no surprises philosophy, carried me through the entire process with a positive and just verdict, and with the most efficient and least financial cost possible. As my advocate, his genuine interest in me, the client, was evidenced time and again by always counseling me appropriately on when not to pursue something that would most likely be a waste of time, money, energy and emotion.
