I was referred to Mr. Hoole by another attorney and could not have been more pleased. Mr. Hoole is a true professional who is knowledgeable, efficient and excels in constant communication. Mr. Hoole offered excellent guidance through the entire process of my case and I offer my highest recommendation for this attorney.

During the course of a ten-year (!) lawsuit that was eventually heard by the Utah State Supreme Court, Greg was an absolute rock. The case was more complex, longer-running and higher profile than I think any of us expected, yet Greg's professionalism, attention to detail, compassion and care for how I was feeling, and complete determination to make sure justice was served never wavered. He gives great no-nonsense advice, explained complex issues in a way that I could understand, sees all the angles, and comes up with solid arguments that he effectively backs up and argues successfully. Plus, he is genuinely a pleasure to be around and during long depositions and stressful moments, his calm demeanor and humor were greatly appreciated. I never felt pressured, I always felt supported and listened to, and we got there eventually. He is genuinely one of the good guys and I am so grateful that he was in my corner during this process.

Greg not only represented us and had our best interests, he listened to us, understood our needs, and gave sound advice while always maintaining such professionalism. We had an injury sustained by a foreigner in a rental car causing injuries that will last a lifetime for our family. Greg helped us understand what was realistic and explained all of the legal jargon and red tape we couldn't have navigated on our own. Greg isn't just a lawyer to us, he's a man of true integrity, a genuine, honest businessman who looks out for his clients and a friend to us. Not only would we recommend him, we wouldn't imagine using anyone else if ever a situation were to arise. Greg was persistent, he doesn't drop the ball and while he had many important cases he was always thorough and available. Many times he took our calls after hours knowing it was the only time we were available. Never once were we in fear that he would back down or try to convince us to settle if that's not what we wanted. He always laid all of the options out on the table. It's not everyday you find such a sincere attorney who works to get the best outcome for the client. I'm grateful we had Greg, I can't imagine the nightmare we would still be living without his knowledge, skills and hard work. If you're looking for an attorney you can trust, who will take care of your needs and listen to you and your family, Greg is absolutely your guy. I assure you, you won't be disappointed.

I was involved in a bicycle accident that left we with a traumatic brain injury. I asked around a bit and Greg Hoole was recommended by a fellow cyclist. I talked to Greg and after consideration he agreed to represent me in my claim against the driver of the car that hit me. My entire experience with Greg, from the initial claim, through all the gathering of material, the negotiations with the other attorneys, and the settlement was very positive. I believe I had top-notch representation and I received a fair and just settlement.

My company was contacted by a private equity firm who made an unsolicited, written offer for our company. It was a fair price, offered at a time my partner was looking to retire. Our business lawyer recommended Brent Hawkins to represent us through the acquisition. Brent was very expert and insightful and helped negotiate a better agreement and price than had been initially proposed. We’re satisfied nothing was left undone and that we were well represented.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Salt Lake City, Utah?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
