Aaron Millar was recommended to me by a neighbor to represent me in my divorce. This recommendation was reaffirmed by 2 other friends. All 3 recommending parties are practicing attorneys. Despite many shenanigans by opposing counsel, Aaron did a great job in getting to the finances. He defended my character and did not disparage my sons mother, which was important. I regard Aaron Millar as ethical, fair, well prepared and an excellent attorney.

Jake has stepped in to help us in an estate matter. It has been challenging to say the least with my parents getting divorced 6 months before my mom passed away and then my father passing away. My mother didn't have her ducks in a row after the divorce so her retirement had not been split, nor had she updated the beneficiaries. Jake stepped in and has been doing everything in his power to deal with my mother's retirement and fidelity. I appreciate everything he has done. He is very professional.

I started out with Andrew at a different firm by someone who referred me to him in 11/22 for my petition for divorce. Then around 6/23 Andrew had made a decision to go with Miller Legal Law Firm and because I liked Andrew's legal representation I decided it was worth to start over again with him in his new adventure. I am so grateful that I did, Andrew was always there for questions and answers he guided me through some really difficult things I was going through and sometimes there are things you may not want to bring up but I trusted Andrew enough to confide in so many issues going on and he was always very supportive and handled each issue with excellent feedback. At times I felt hopeless and discouraged on things and of course Andrew helped with those concerns. He was always very kind and would listen. My case finally ended 07/24 but we had to go to Trial and I was full of anxiety and stress but Andrew pulled me through. The Judge was always amazed on how well Andrew was representing the evidence and the facts. Andrew was a fighter for his clients and I really appreciated that. My outcome in Trial was great with such great representation and I am so ever grateful for Andrew and Millar Law. Also his staff Barbara was always so kind and sweet and always got back to me, also Joy and Selda were also amazing! I am so grateful I put my trust in Andrew Langland and Miller Law. I never meet Aaron but I have heard he was a great person. My heart of joy goes to both Andrew and Aaron. I will highly recommend them when someone I know is going through difficult time in there lives. Thank you for everything!!

Taylor Broadhead is an amazingly empathetic yet tough lawyer. He didn't shy away from being straight forward concerning the advice I was seeking concerning custody issues. He helped me navigate and address many obstacles to reach a suitable resolution. The staff associates are also so helpful and kind. Would definitely recommend Taylor and Anderson Hinkins LLC to any one who is in need of family law assistance.

Mr. Sparks has always been helpful with whatever I'm doing. He isn't a nickel and dime attorney. He isn't looking to break the bank with everything you're doing. He's a fair guy with fair prices. But most importantly, he knows what he's doing to accomplish what needs to be done.

If I could give Matt 10 stars, I would. We have a Washington case that was transferred to Utah and after a lot of searching for a good attorney, stumbled upon Matt, who previously practiced in WA before moving to Utah. This man is worth every penny and then some. He is professional while also being realistic and keeping humor involved. He has never given us expectations of something that didn't happen. He has fought for us and gotten results in record time that we weren't able to get with previous attorneys. Matt has gotten more results in 1.5 years than we previously managed to get in almost 10 years. He is logical, efficient and has a keen eye for detail. I work in the legal field in WA, but once it was transferred we had to find a Utah attorney so I'm extremely picky and have pretty high standards. Honestly, if you don't hire him it's your loss, and if your ex hires him you're probably screwed. He's that good.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of South Jordan, Utah?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
