Going through a divorce in Utah is awful. Using Mike was wonderful. All I can say is he made a difficult process bearable.

I have actually worked with Mike and also some of his various other partners several times on issues varying from child support and custody in divorce to corporations and trust concerns when my dad passed away. I have always discovered them to be reasonably priced, responsive, and honest. I have recommended Ascent Law firm to my friends and family. I have used different attorneys in the past and I have found Mike and Greg at Ascent Law to be the most effective attorneys for me. They can be aggressive when it is needed. They do not run the bill up unnecessarily, they get things done and inform me if I have downsides to my case, but most importantly, they go through the issues with me and make sure we get what I want most accomplished.

This review summarizes my experiences with Ascent Law, good and bad. Before delving into that, it is important to stress that overall I am pleased with the services they provided. With Ascent Law's assistance, I am free of a certain toxic, negative and deceitful influence. This has dramatically improved my well-being, and my financial status remains undamaged. I am immensely grateful to the firm for their assistance in this. Everyone I worked with during my lawsuit was friendly. The lawyers and staff always make me feel welcome - in fact, because of this I typically insist on coming into the firm for meetings rather than phone calls. When I first met with Jeremy Eveland, he explained my options and the cost of the retainer. I was assured that I had a good case, so we moved forward with it. In the next phase of my lawsuit, some of Jeremy's recommended filings proved fruitless and resulted in additional, unnecessary expenses. Because of this I made a choice against another of Jeremy's suggestions later on. He did not explain possible consequences of this, which resulted in misunderstanding the defendant's case prior to trial. I was not made aware that the retainer was an initial payment. It was a complete surprise to receive a bill for services beyond the retainer midway through the case, and I was shocked at the billing rate. I approached the financial staff about it, but they were unwilling to budge on the total even though I had never been advised on the hourly cost. Regardless, I paid my current bill in total, dipping into a 401k in order to do so. After paying it, I was advised that the firm's billing system had not been charging me the correct amount. My real bill was almost double! Had I known the rate at which the costs had accumulated, I would have made some different choices during the case. Just weeks prior to the court date, Jeremy assigned my case to another lawyer, Michael Anderson. Mike is quite amiable, and we get along well. I greatly enjoyed working with him. Unfortunately, when we went to trial it did not go as well as we had expected. While Mike did the best he could, as he hadn't fielded the case from the start there may have been subtleties which he did not quite grasp. We failed to summon a key witness to corroborate much of my side. Our strategy resulted in agreeing to amend a portion of the agreement central to the lawsuit. Between that and a bad ruling from the judge in an otherwise well-settled area of law, this resulted in awarding me an unfairly lesser sum from the initial agreement. After suffering this loss, I've been working on paying off a sizable bill from the firm. During the case and for over a year afterward, I was frequently billed extra - interest the firm charges despite an agreement we have with regards to how much I pay each month. I'm always assured that this is erroneous; however, it was lost on me as to why I must always follow up to ensure proper totals. Additionally, several months ago I was called by a member of the financial staff and told quite rudely that the amount I had been paying was insufficient and that they need more per month. Between these two issues, it felt very much like harassment. Recently, I approached Jeremy again with the concerns I have expressed above regarding the billing during the course of my case. He expressed understanding and sympathy, and had his financial staff ensure that the amounts I had been billed were fair and only for billable work. Mike later called and advised that he has taken ownership of the firm, and we have worked out a new, much more manageable total for my bill. Sometimes lawsuits don't go the way you expect. It happens. Overall, the assistance provided by Ascent Law is of lasting benefit to me, and I am delighted to continue to employ their services.

Mike Anderson and Greg Lyle have really helped me with a real estate quiet title action. These guys know real estate law. If you are in South Jordan - you should see them for real estate litigation.

They are crooks! If we could give them a zero, we would! They ended up being unprepared and dragged it on for months. We were making our payments like he told us to, paid $900 to file and they said they needed $1,000 because there was an illegal thing that our mortgage company did. They said they'd look into it and fight a portion of it. We gave them our bills like they requested but the medical bills were so mixed up, they said they would get the correct amounts, but never did. They listed the same bill about 3 times on a few, but with different totals. So they were claiming more than what was really owed. So our payments to the trustee were ridiculous. THEN because he was so unprepared, it got our bankruptcy discharged. Of course SOME of the money we paid to the trustee was returned to us, AFTER the attorney took $1,400 for his "services". We think he intentionally did this just so he didn't have to do crap, and then collected innocent people's money, who are already suffering for doing nothing! Then! He told us "well, it was my fault, so I won't charge you as much this time. You'll just have to pay $450 for the filing fee". We were naive and trusted him again because he already had everything. HE DID THE SAME THING! His office called us at 9:00pm the night before and said they needed some documents for court the next morning at 8:00am! They were documents we couldn't get because the companies we had to get them from were already closed, and wouldn't reopen until 9:00 the next day! We were screwed once again for another $1,400! $900+$1,000+1,400+$450+$1,400=SCREWED! Oh! And, the $1,000 they said they needed to look into the mortgage fraud... they did NOTHING on it. We would ask numerous times and we'd just get "oh, he's working on it, we'll get back with you". They did NOTHING and we saw nothing back! THANKS FOR SCREWING A FAMILY OVER THAT WAS READY TO LOSE THEIR HOME, AND GIVING US HOPE THAT WE'D BE ABLE TO SAVE OUR HOME! Our business struggled from the recession and we never recovered. We spent 5 years (after closing the business) trying to get our personal finances caught back up, and get our heads above water once again. So, our hopes are that our mortgage company will work with us on a modification, and we'll just have to slowly do what we can to pay our thousands of medical bills little by little. I guess that's now money that could go to the bills, rather than the trustee! DON'T USE THESE CROOKS! They are lazy and procrastinate on everything before they screw you over! I forgot to add, they told us to start making payments on one date, only for us to find out we were supposed to start payments TWO MONTHS EARLIER! Also, they wouldn't ever answer/respond to our calls or emails. It was ridiculous! All we would ever get were the automated reminder emails that would say "don't forget to make your payment to the trustee". I honestly think they either paid people for good reviews, or just their family. Crooks!

I want to take a moment and tell you about Michael Anderson - I will try to keep it short. Mike is not only a family man that is good to his wife and kids, but he is an amazing lawyer. I have learned that when you have to choose an attorney to fight for you and your child’s life in court, you should review the prior successes of the attorney. But honestly, not only did I need an aggressive pit-bull type of attorney, I also needed an attorney with a kind heart, someone that could handle an over-aggressive ex and also be caring to me. That’s exactly what Mike Anderson is. A caring family law attorney and also an aggressive advocate in court. I highly recommend Mike, Jeremy, Jim and Steven and all of their professional staff (I’ve spoken with all of them over this child custody dispute and divorce mess). Not only does Mike have the life skills of being a loving husband and father to his 3 kids, but he knows the law and is able to help you look forward and help you with the problems here and now. He’s good. Really good. Mike really helped me through this stressful time in my life. When it’s your turn to have to fight in West Jordan or Salt Lake (I’ve been in both courts) you better make sure Michael Anderson is on your side. If he’s on the other side – look out! Thanks for everything Mike -

This past year has been one of the hardest of my life. My spouse mentally abused me for years and I just hung in there for so long for the kids. One day, my oldest said to me “I think you’d be happier if you got divorced.” I knew that I would need the best divorce lawyer in Utah, so I spoke to a few of my divorced friends and after listening to them and after speaking with Mike Anderson, I knew I had found the right divorce lawyer for me. He took care of everything. He did the paperwork, filed it quickly, got the ball rolling. In the end, I think we fought more than we should have, but really, it settled once my ex found out that I was right and my attorney was going to take him to the cleaners. So, it’s over now. The house in Riverton, Utah has been sold and I got half of the equity. I’m doing much better now. I can’t thank Mike Anderson and his team enough. They really cared about me and my case and it showed. If you want the top Utah divorce attorney, call Mike. He listens, cares and he’ll fight for you.

I like these guys, they worked as a team to get my lawsuit resolved. As far as my divorce and child custody case, they know their stuff. I really wanted to settle quickly. It wasn't as fast as I wanted, but it got done and I am so much happier for it.

My experience with Steven Rush was the most painless of all the many horrible things that a DUI charge will bring with it. The reason I say it was painless was because he knows exactly what he is doing. You know once you talk to him that this isn't his first rodeo. Steven has confidence in what he is doing witch really helped me during this hard time. This was not the case with other lawyers that I talked to. They told me things that I wanted to hear to try to sell me. That just made my situation worse and lengthened the process and cost. I had some priors so this wasn't a simple case, but after hiring Mr. Rush he got everything worked out and he found flaws in the prosecution's case against me. He found their mistakes and their missing information which made all the difference. Other lawyers don't even read the reports but Steven knew all the details. So, if you have criminal case, I give you my testimonial that he is professional, ethical, smart, and has a good team working with him and you never find yourself trying to track him down for stuff. I can't tell you how happy I am. Thanks Steven!!!

Mr. Payne has been absolutely wonderful to work with. Crap happens and it does suck to have to go through a BK. However, Robert is very thorough and is very professional. He takes his time and explains everything in detail. He understands this isn't an easy decision but he makes it easier to go through and keeps you informed along the way.
