DL Vermont is simply an outstanding Law Firm! The whole team from the Lawyers, Paralegals and investigators, are all extremely conscientious, ethical, honest and very knowledgeable. The whole team is exactly what they present from the first time you meet them. Nothing short of humane and understanding of any situation life unfortunately can present. They state they are "out of the box thinkers", that is hands down exactly what makes them great at what they do. Sam and his team are nothing short of people with integrity that you want in your corner. I had never experienced the Court system, hired a Lawyer or knew anything that I was up against. The whole team was very informative, very patient with me, transparent at all times, and kept me up to date on the process at a moments notice of them knowing. From providing support, lunch meetings/check-ins and advice on how to find peaceful ways to make it through the process. This firm hands down is the sole reason I made it through my situation with my dignity in tact, and the outcome better than I expected! The bottom line is if you want a hard-working, knowledgeable, empathetic, and supportive TEAM then look no further than DL Vermont! They are like second family and you can immediately tell, they are Family outside of their work and support each other in all aspects of work and personal lives. I am forever grateful and will always turn to DL Vermont.

The attorneys and the paralegal at DL Vermont work as an incredible team and are totally dedicated to their clients. They certainly worked tirelessly to create the best outcomes for me. I was looking for a lawyer who would be aggressive and effective in a complex legal matter, and I was highly satisfied with DL Vermont. In addition to being excellent lawyers and advocates, they were also stellar communicators, had a great sense of humor, and made my whole situation feel more bearable. They checked in on me regularly and even provided me with their cell phone numbers so I could call and text during and after hours. In the end we won my case. I would definitely use these guys again!

It's the situations in life you do not expect that take your breath away. One morning I had a frantic call from a friend I never dreamed would happen. This person's spouse had experienced a mental health issue that quickly turned life-threatening for my friend. With the help of local law enforcement, the individual fled the family with nothing, young children in tow and went immediately into hiding. Facing frozen assets, homelessness, and an imminent threat to life, this person said, "I need a good attorney - who do you know?" I immediately referred them to Brittany LaBerge at DL Vermont, assuring them that Brittany could handle the situation no matter how big or small. Brittany handled the situation immediately, sensitively, and with the kind of expertise, sensitivity, and compassion that can only be provided by someone with a level head in chaos and significant expertise. When I touched based with my friend later the same day, she raved about her experience with Brittany, was so much calmer and said, "I feel so much more in control." Thank you Brittany for being an incredible attorney, rapidly responding to Clients and bringing calm to the storm.

I would like to tell you why I would always recommend Sam Dworkin for your criminal defense. He is tireless. He clearly puts his clients before anything else - and will leave no stone unturned when winning his case. He employs his entire team to win the case. Imagine, you hire one lawyer and you get the entire office to get the job done. Sam isn’t afraid to ask questions, interact with other agencies and even pester people (in a kind way) to get the answers he is looking for. His team feels the same way. Call Sam when you want the very best for you or your client - Don’t wait!

I was in need of a lawyer for legal representation during a divorce and family court. What I got was someone that treated me as a friend that seemed to have know me forever, Austin truly has his clients best interests at heart, and he will fight for you as if you were part of his family. I am truely grateful that Austin represented me because without Austin I would have been completely screwed. This guy knows his stuff I would highly recommend him to anybody! And to top it off he is a great guy! He takes his time to explain everything and you will never be left in the dark! If you need a lawyer for family/divorce hire this guy!

I have hired Mr. gray on a few occasions that ranged from a simple Quick Claim Deed so I could legally add my new wife onto a property I had previously owned before marriage, to navigating through an eviction process in order to have a tenant removed from my rental property. Each time I contacted and worked with Mr. Gray I found him to be very curious and helpful in navigating the legal system. I also found Mr. Gray to be quite clear with explaining the options as well as focused on what the desired outcome was while reassuring me that he would handle the tough stuff. If I find I am ever in need of legal assistance I will not hesitate in calling Mr. Gray. He truly was a great help when I needed the assistance.

I can’t recommend Andrew Delaney highly enough! He is not just an exceptional attorney but an amazing human being. His knowledge of personal injury law is flawless, and I am eternally grateful for his expertise and aplomb in settling my case. It takes a great strategist to negotiate with insurance companies, but more than that, it requires integrity. Andy is a straight shooter through and through. He is the most responsive lawyer I’ve ever worked with, gets back to you immediately, listens to all your concerns, and explains things in plain English. The bottom line is that Andy really cares about his clients, gets to know you personally, and has a great sense of humor, which goes a long way when you are injured and suffering. I’d hire him again in a heartbeat.

I contacted Andrew's firm blindly, with a very specific and international request, thinking I would probably get nothing back. Andrew picked up my request, and took the time to help me find several lawyers to contact in Italy. Yup, Italy. Without ever meeting me or getting my business, Thank you again Andrew!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Barre, Vermont?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
