I was locked up in Maryland on a DWI and was told by two different inmates that the best attorney they ever hired was Charlie. Of course I had my doubts. I was facing a number of felonies and misdemeanors in the DMV area and also had deportation hold. My girlfriend went online to find his website but found he does not have one. Turns out all his clients come to him by word of mouth and referral. I had hired a couple different lawyers before because I was impressed with fancy interactive web sites but they proved to be losers. I think I ended up paying them to maintain those fancy websites and they all helped put me in jail. My girl called Charlie on a Saturday at about 9pm expecting to leave a voice message. What a shock when he answered. He explained his experience in federal, state and local courts and turns out he is a retired 21 year police officer. He has incredible experience on both sides of the law. He got me out on bond, even with the detainer from ICE and then convinced the Immigration Judge to release me on my signature. Unbelievable. I used Charlie in 3 different jurisdictions and the cases were either dismissed or broken down with no jail and court costs only. He is also handling my immigration work. Asylum for me and family green cards for my relatives. Charlie is a one stop shop. Criminal, civil and immigration. Don't hire an attorney because he happens to have a fancy web site. I would say the fancier the web site the more you are paying for a car salesman. You need someone like Charlie who is an actual fighter and knows the system. Hell he was the system for 21 years. He has no website because he gets tons of clients by referral. His only advertising is his name and cell phone and believe me he will answer. If you are in trouble call Charlie. He is licensed in Maryland and Virginia. He is also licensed in California but he said that is only for the people who own wineries. Too funny. He is the best!!!

Mr FitzGerald came recommended to me from a friend. Like the other reviews I was amazed that he answers the phone most everyday and time. His knowledge of the law and relationship with the prosecutors is better than any other lawyer I have had to hire. My case was a DWI 2, ASAP violation, 2 counts of Driving on Suspended, and 2 Probation violations. This occurred in Montgomery County. I had replaced another attorney who I had first hired who said he got me a "deal" to serve 60 days. Mr FitzGerald somehow was able to get all but the DWI dropped and I did 5 days. He is now handling my immigration case. He is reliable, responds immediately, reasonably priced and knows his stuff. I recommend him if you have any legal problem.

I was arrested in Maryland for a series of felonies and I got Mr. FitzGerald's name from one of the deputies who knew him from his days as a police officer. I did not get bonded out so I called his number on Sunday expecting to leave a message since no attorneys ever work weekends and most make you wait for 3 days before they return the call. Surprisingly Mr. FitzGerald answered immediately and told me he makes himself available 7 days a week and most hours of the day, since most arrests occur at night. Well I am glad I called. Although his fee was not the cheapest (you get what you pay for) it was worth it and more. He filed a bond motion the next day and I was out on Tuesday. Meanwhile he tracked down two of the witnesses and the officer and interviewed them at length. This helped when it came time to go to trial. In discussions with the prosecutor as to why the case against me was no good, he learned that the prosecution felt exactly the same way due to the evidence being suspect. I do not know how he was able to do so, but all charges were dropped. He is now preparing a civil suit for malicious prosecution. If you are arrested for any offense, felony, misdemeanor, dui, drugs, assault....anything, you have to call Mr FitzGerald. The other reviews he has are spot on. This guy is knowledgable, knows the system inside and out, is always available to call and speak to, when he says he will do something it gets done fast. Trust me this is the guy to call. He practices in local courts and federal courts (I know because my nephew used him in federal court...and won).

My nephew was arrested for a series of federal offenses. At the time of his arrest the US Atty was going to indict for 11 felonies. Before I hired Mr. FitzGerald I interviewed several "powerful firms" but found that most of them treated me and my family like we were second class citizens. Plus I didn't like that I could not call directly and talk with the lawyer without being put on hold or had to wait for a call back 2 days later. I hired Mr. FitzGerald Due to Mr. FitzGerald's negotiating with the US Atty they agreed to limit the charges to only 4 felonies all which were so intertwined with one another that it permitted Mr. FitzGerald to argue at sentencing that the sentencing guidelines should be adjusted downward, which the court did. My nephew ended up with a sentence to serve of less than 18months instead of the 48 months the government wanted. My nephew will be out before Christmas 2017. Mr. FitzGerald is a former police detective/sergeant who knows the legal and justice system inside and out. He has worked in the court systems and criminal justice system for over 30 years and is well versed with law enforcement and the judicial systems. It was surprising that he has only been an attorney since 2011 with his knowledge of the law. Mr FitzGerald kept me apprised every step of the way, was always available anytime I called. As I read in his other reviews before I hired him, he always answers his own phone or calls back immediately. He is a very good lawyer and I would recommend him to anyone who needs help.

I hired Mr. FitzGerald after I fired another attorney because the other attorney was not responsive to my sons case. I was surprised to find out that when I called Mr FitzGerald's number he answered immediately. That just doesn't happen with lawyers. You usually have to wait a couple of days for a call back. My son was charged with several armed robbery counts and firearm charges. Mr. FitzGerald immediately got in touch with the prosecutors office and the detective and went to work. He got discovery within 3 days and explained every aspect to me. He visited my son 3 times in a 5 day period and set forth a plan that had the prosecutor agreeing to drop all but one charge with a good chance that my son would be sentenced to less than two years based on sentence guidelines. He also started to work on the ICE detainer. My sons girlfriend was trying to influence Mr. FitzGerald to take some action that Mr FitzGerald said violated ethics and would not be beneficial to my son. Mr. FitzGerald refused and my sons girlfriend convinced me to change attorneys. I should have told her to mind her own business. Everything changed. The deal Mr. FitzGerald had worked out disappeared and my son had to plead guilty to several felonies. He will be sentenced to a long time in prison. Mr. FitzGerald is honest. He knows how the police work due to his former experience and he knows how to deal with the evidence and the prosecutors office. He handles federal and immigration cases as well. Mr. FitzGerald makes no promises, tells you exactly what is going on and is always available night and day. I wish I had never changed attorneys. I wish I had kept Mr. FitzGerald.

I cannot speak highly enough of Ms. Moona Shakil Ali. Her expertise and unwavering support were instrumental in successfully navigating the complex green card application process for my mother. Ms. Ali's in-depth knowledge of immigration law was invaluable. She provided clear and concise explanations throughout the process, which helped alleviate our concerns and anxieties. Even during the most challenging moments, she remained calm and reassuring. The green card application process is notoriously lengthy, and there were times when it felt overwhelming. However, Ms. Ali's encouragement and optimism kept us going. Her belief in our case and her persistent efforts were crucial to the successful outcome. I am truly grateful for Ms. Ali's professionalism, compassion, and dedication. I wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone facing immigration challenges.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Arlington, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
