Let me preface my review by stating that I had previously retained the services of another attorney for my case but had been unsuccessful. After some careful deliberation, I decided to reach out to Matt for a consultation and he gave me an honest, thorough assessment of my situation and laid out a strategy for my case going forward. Matt’s representation was exceptional in all regards. Throughout the entire process he was quick to address any questions or concerns I had and always provided me with no-nonsense, sincere advice. I was especially impressed at how Matt meticulously approached my case from multiple angles, conducting extensive background research as well as anticipating potential obstacles and preparing accordingly. Mr. Kaplan was referred to handle the appeal process of a CPO that was filed and granted in the District of Columbia in 2014. From the beginning of this process Mr. Kaplan has remained firm that we have a very strong case - with multiple points of convincing and compelling legal arguments that would warrant a reversal. This was the plan. For the next 2 years, he worked towards the results. From submitting motions to allow more time to pay for over $2000 worth of transcripts or delay brief submission for the Supreme Court Elonis decision in June 2015, Mr. Kaplan was on top of every motion, and every detail. In spite of the appellee being represented by an attorney that opposed each motion - every brief Kaplan wrote oozed professionalism, a strong expert command of case law, and pin point razor sharp focus to the core issues of our case. It's not surprising that all motions were GRANTED. This case was fortunately selected for oral arguments - and Mr. Kaplan represented strongly in this domain. I listened to, and recorded the oral arguments and heard him direct the District of Columbia Court of Appeals judges to the salient facts of this case. It's not surprising that ruling was overturned - and our motion - GRANTED. Currently, Mr. Kaplan submitted two additional motions to publish the appellate's court decision, and rule 39 motion for fees. I have no doubt that we will be successful in both. Mr. Kaplan's hard work and mastery of his craft has done what I had thought was the impossible - made right that which was made wrong. Many lawyers are competent to practice law, but few are proficient enough to practice law at an expert/mastery level. Mr. Kaplan is just that - an expert in his field. He has an enormous wealth of knowledge, and a very intuitive grasp of what the focus of a case should be and zeroes in. It's why he gets the results as intended.
