There aren’t enough stars or a rating system sufficient to capture what Ariel and the team at Livesay and Myers did for me. Everyone from the front desk to the paralegals worked as a seamless unit, led by Ariel’s steady and capable hands. With a holistic approach to the system and an uncanny ability to dictate positive outcomes through the strategic application of soft and hard approaches, she was at all times focused, prepared, unhurried, and resolute while remaining fluid and dynamic. I felt listened to, supported, and I trusted in our eventual success. A heartfelt thank you from myself and my son to Ariel, Brittany, Tracy and the team.

I originally hired Livesay & Myers based off their Google reviews I read when I got served divorce papers. I can say that I had nothing but a positive experience with the firm. Ms. Stone Swart and Ms. Humiston were true professionals for the entire length of the case (which seemed like a lifetime!) however they stuck with me till the end. They were empathetic when needed but they also did a great job of keeping me in line when I was disagreeing with a certain path ("Look Scott, this is what the law states..."). Yup, got it! Ms. Humiston was amazingly organized and helped keep me on target for due dates as well as explain what certain things meant. Ms. Stone Swart was a pleasure to work with. She knew every inch of the law inside and out. Though my case got difficult (and I even gave her an escape route!) she stuck with me till the end. I would not hesitate to work with both Dani and Amanda and the firm again.

I had the absolute pleasure of working with this awesome team TWICE! Both times I received amazing results from their work. I have worked with a handful of attorney’s in the past and I’ve never had a good experience. Never felt truly supported and secure in their ability to represent me. Alyssa Grzesiak, Ariel Baniowski, and Brittany Gordon assisted me with my Family Law case. They were responsive, thorough, and supportive. They were so easy to talk to, showed they cared in many ways, and were just awesome representing me in court and going to bat for my kids best interest. They have earned my business for life!

I am forever indebted to Amanda Stone Swart, Danielle Humiston and everyone else at Livesay Meyers who helped me through my custody and divorce settlements. My case was high-conflict to say the least. During times of uncertainty, Amanda and her team were informative, transparent and attentive. They understood what was at stake and handled everything with the upmost professionalism. Amanda’s skills in and out of the court room were nothing short of amazing. Because of Amanda and her team at Livesay Meyers, I am able to move forward with my life on a very positive note. I would highly recommend her and the firm to anyone in need of a family law attorney.

Neil has been instrumental in helping me start my business; not a small task as anyone who has tried would know. Without Neil, I'm not sure I could have navigated the myriad complexities of law that are not in my personal area of expertise. Negotiations, contracts, non-disclosure agreements, personnel law; the list goes on. More than that, I'm not just another client to him. He's there when I have an emergency and cares about enabling my company success.

Neil Richmond and Attentive law group are top notch professionals. Being a business owner, I have many colleagues throughout Loudoun County and Neil came highly recommended from several of them. Neil delivered and exceeded on that recommendation. My wife and I own an in home personal training business and we have used Neil several times over the past two years for writing up contracts and dealing with any infractions that arise. What we really liked in the beginning of working with Neil is how transparent he was about his process and his fee structure. There were never any hidden fees and once the work is done he gives you a print out of exactly what he did with the time. Aside from writing contracts, Neil as also been an advisor to myself and my wife if we ever has any questions about legal issues in our business, he is extremely knowledgeable. I highly recommend Neil to anyone who needs a extremely professional, honest and transparent lawyer. And one who can speak to you in terms that you understand.

This review should have been put up in October 2018, when we first started our own restaurant business. Jibran was referred by a common friend and he was extremely professional and really took the time out to read through our lease agreement and go over some key points and also provide invaluable feedback that was amended in the agreement. We are grateful for the advice and we could not have asked for a better attorney for us.

Outstanding service from start to finish. Jibran is very professional, efficient, caring and most importantly expert in his work. He informed me through whole process of my husband case. He never ignored my calls or emails. His communication was great. He always explained everything clearly to me. He even helped my husband back home to prepare his interview which I never heard any lawyer does for their Clients. Absolutely amazing and superb person. Don't have enough words to say more good thing about him. I highly highly his recommend his service.

Mr. Muhammad was helpful and responsive to all my questions and concerns. It was my first time going to court and he was with me every step of the way. We had several meetings before the court day and together we came up with a game plan. In court he stepped up and got me a good deal with the prosecutor. Overall, it was a pleasant experience!

When I started my company, my old employer threatened to sue me for using an image that was too close to one he had trademarked. I hired Paul, and after some quick work, assured me that the images were not close enough, or unique enough for him to have solid legal ground to stand on. This really calmed me quickly. I think his comprehensive experience in patents and trademarks allowed him to decisively set my mind at ease rapidly.

I have used Paul for years and have found him to be an exceptional attorney that applies business first. When reviewing a patent or trademark, he always starts out the conversation with the business value proposition and then applies the legal angle. This is particularly important to me as I have a small business and speed to market and accuracy are very important. In addition, Paul's fees are very fair.

I have used Paul’s legal services for the past 7 years for both general business and patent work. In every case he has done exceptional work and given me great advice. Because he has worked in both start-ups as well as large corporations and at the USPTO, he has seen so many of the scenarios I have faced. In addition his network is deep and if he doesn’t know the answer he knows where to get it. Lastly, he is very fair when it comes to pricing so you won’t break your bank account. I highly recommend him!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Ashburn, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
