I can not say enough wonderful things about Kat Currin!!! She was extremely professional, organized, always prepared in court, and kept an open line of communication with me for whatever I needed. She is tough in the courtroom & fought hard for me to get the results we wanted in my custody case. She was also so supportive & reassuring and truly had my back throughout the whole process. I will always recommend her to anyone looking for a great attorney!!!

All I can say is trust God and your Gut Feeling Vania O'Keefe You watched me get railroad by Suffolk JDR court and I felt like you were on the enemy side. I was kept from my child illegally by liars and money hungry people so why should I have to pay you more money. You are a mother and did nothing to help your client. I am now disable and unable to live in peace with this nightmare still haunting me. I encourage you all to record your life don't trust the law if you are poor you won't matter. Four years of injustice so I don't owe you anything . Guys please follow my story My Dysfunctional Life book on Amazon. People only get away with hurting you when you let things go . Beware of Kathrine currin if she is appointed as a guardian ad litem. A few years back she encouraged my physically abusive ex to battle me in court for custody. She came to my home and spoke with me with my children we get to court the judge sided with me. After court she told my ex to file an appeal. She literally was telling him to calm down and pointing him in the direction of the appeals office. I didn't hear anything else from her. So when she was at the appeal standing on my ex's side I was confused cause I thought she was mutual. I had both of my children I couldn't afford childcare at the time. I'm telling the judge my side of things she yells out objection! Told the judge if I wanted to say certain things I should've have gotten proper childcare. I'm disgusted at this point cause I didn't bring the kids for fun I literally had no choice. They were under 3 at the time and it was during covid. I ended up having to do 7 on 7 off. Ended up going through more domestic violence trying to co parent with an abusive narcissist. Ended up homeless cause I had no help and couldn't keep a schedule to save my life. So beware of her as a guardian she seems more like a defense attorney and my ex has been in the system all his life. Which is more than likely why she felt the need to defend him. She forgot all about the child. My baby has been having rough life and currin certainly played a major part!

Mr. Hubbard represented me in a WC case. My experience with him was the most professional and HONEST experience I have ever had with an Attorney. This is rare gentleman. He never told me what to say or not to say in any of our depositions or court cases. A brand new experience for me. Other attorney's would brief me before court etc: going as far as to tell me the questions I'd be asked and how to answer them. Not Mr. Hubbard. He treated me like the honest person I am and I appreciated him for it. I won my case and the plain and simply TRUTH prevailed. Thumps up for this attorney.

I contacted Vania to explore the process of Power of Attorneys and Living Wills. I had no idea what to do. Vania was patient and kind, and incredibly helpful. She asked a few questions and then she promptly sent proofs to my email. When it was time to sign, SHE CAME TO ME and worked around my schedule. Vania is extremely professional and she took what could have been a complicated process and made it simple, helping me navigate the whole thing. I would recommend Vania without hesitation to everyone for all of your estate planning needs.

I cannot begin to describe the ease that Mrs. O’Keefe provided me during my child custody/support issue. She handled everything with ease and helped reassure me along the way and was very responsive to all of my questions and concerns along the way.

In the midst of the pandemic, Vania was instrumental in removing me from a dual guardianship for my sister. She was very professional and did so quickly--even though I did not live nearby. She made a stressful situation easy and I would certainly recommend her to others.

Chris may be the best attorney on the planet. I cannot express this enough. His best attributes are very relatable ones. He is sincere, knowledgeable, honest, transparent, helpful, and most importantly, will put your needs first. I had a very specific problem which was quite unique and Chris spent the time, without charging me for every breath he took, to understand my problem and offered multiple resolutions that I was completely unaware of. He is so incredibly smart and competent that any question I raised had brilliant answers with solutions and follow through. I would hire Chris 10,000 times over for anything within his wheelhouse and that is an incredibly vast amount of skills. He is literally the best attorney one can find and further, his team are a strong representation of him. If you listen to this review and believe my words, you will likely want to thank me for the nudge to hire Chris or his team. He is the absolute best!

Chris is an excellent lawyer. That is well documented. But what you don’t see is his excellent customer service. Chris does a great job of communicating with his clients. He never avoided my calls and always followed-up. I’ve had a lot of experience with lawyers and Chris is by far THE best.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Chesapeake, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
