Pros
1
Effective in getting favorable outcomes for clients, such as reducing charges from reckless driving to speeding tickets
“Rocco was very professional and personable. He took countless time out of his day to speak with me. He laid out a plan and was very assuring that the ticket would be reduced. It went according to the plan. The ticket was dismissed.”
2
Highly knowledgeable and experienced in traffic-related legal matters
“Thoroughly discussed my case and what we needed to do both over the phone and in person. Prepared me well for proceedings. I was pleased with the outcome of my case but even prior to this I was already highly satisfied with my choice of attorney.”
3
Excellent communication and responsiveness, keeping clients informed and addressing their questions
“I also liked the fact that Rocco was easily available by text message and had quick responses to my questions.”
Cons
1
Some clients would have appreciated more proactive communication from the attorney before the court date
“Even though Rocco laid out our strategy and it worked I think I would have felt better during this experience if he would have called me before the court date (within 1 week or so) to reassure me and answer any questions that I may have had.”
2
The attorney's demeanor and approach may not have always been a perfect fit for all clients
“Although extremely nervous about having to be in court, I was very pleased to be represented by this lawyer. He made a very unfortunate situation result in a pleasant obtainable manner.”

Consulted with Mr. Columbus in regards to my speeding ticket that I got the same day. He told me to take a driving course; I opted to take it online instead of a classroom instruction. My original court date was 6/22, but due to unforeseen circumstances, got it continued to 7/27, and he helped me out with that. I gave him the necessary documentation that would help him reinforce my case with the judge. Judge wasn't necessarily the nicest, but Mr. Columbus was able to dismiss the ticket. I personally would recommend Mr. Columbus's services again.

If you are looking for a traffic attorney any where near Courtland VA I highly recommend Railey and Railey! I got pulled over going over 80mph which means it is a reckless driving ticket. I live 5 hours away from where I got pulled over. After researching many attorneys I decided to go with Railey and Railey. They were terrific! They represented me at court so I did not have to go. My charge was reduced to a non-moving violation, which means no points!!!!!! Highly recommend!!!

Driving from FL to NY, received a speeding ticket in VA - well, within a week I had received about 20 letters from attorneys wanting to represent me. I picked the right one - Randall & Bruch, PC. They provided great communications, were very reasonably priced and were able to get the speeding violation reduced. Thank you!

He puts unnecessary items in your case just so he can charge you more to remove them. Doesn't serve the defendant correctly which causes which grants them an extension which you still have to pay the attorney for showing up in court. Just horrible service all around. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for an attorney that even acts as if they care. Oh, and you will speak to the paralegal 99.5% of the time who will bill you for their errors.

My husband hire Mr. Frank for son custody case. At 1st he seemed to care about my son situation. My son had done everything that he supposed to do when the other party didn't follow the court orders. My son had called Mr. Frank several times for advice. (When the other party had lied on my son in court) Mr. Frank didn't even bother to check into that to make sure if it was true or not. Took him awhile to return all calls. Before the court date, there was some documents were email to my son on what was going to take place before court. The day of court, the two parties (lawyers) were discussing of what to do. At that time, we noticed our son was very UPSET of what was said by his lawyer. To make a long story short, Mr. Frank didn't even FIGHT for my son in his custody for his child. He pretty much WAS GLUED TO HIS SEAT AND DIDN"T DEFEND HIM. We had evidence. (Text message, pictures, videos, show cause) he didn't even bother to bring it up in court. So pretty much WE lost over a GREAT LUMP SUM money of him NOT doing not his job. So now my son is losing time with his daughter/granddaughter life. As a family we were VERY UPSET. And the sad thing about it, Mr. Frank told my son, so I guess you are going to fired me. So that tells us he didn't care if my son didn't win his case. He was ALL ABOUT THE MONEY! And that was wrong. So now we are looking into another lawyer who will do the job and do right by my son.

Hired Mr. Frank for a modification to spousal support. It's been year and to date, Mr. Frank has failed to find out any important information like how much my estranged spouse makes for one, file any motion with court, is not very good at returning phone calls or emails regarding the case or what he has done in regards of said case. And now he is asking to be dismissed from said case. Achieving little to nothing must be exhausting. So its been a total waste of time and finances to get nothing but sand slipping threw your hands. I am sure I will do better just filing the paperwork on my own and going to court by myself. At least I know I can finish what I start and not have wonder how long before I hear back from a MIA attorney. I wish I would have just paid myself for all the work.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Courtland, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
