I hired Attorney Frei for a family member. I was their POwer of Attorney. . I handled all aspects of helping to prepare a personal injury suit including settlement negotiations. I was assured my expenses would be reimbursed. Upon settlement and an award of 875,000.00, I presented Attorney Frei my costs of 4,000.00. Not only did he not reimburse me, but he ignored emails and phone calls. I have no choice but to report him to the Virginia Bar

Our auto liability case just settled and we are happy that our representation was superior and exceeded our expectations. Steve and his associate Matt took our case even though it was a week from the filing due date and it wasn't particularly big bucks. At trial, we got 30% more than the insurance co offered. They both showed excellent judgement as all of their recommendations were spot-on. At all times, they prepared and discussed our concerns thoroughly, keeping us well informed. I work closely with many top lawyers for more than two decades and can be fairly critical and meticulous, probably more so than their peers would say, so its no small matter to say I found their work to be very competently done and I highly recommend him.

To Whom It May Concern; July 28, 2014 Attorney Steven Frei and his staff were a God-send to me and my 88 yr. old uncle. My uncle was severely injured for the rest of his life, as a passenger in an automobile accident. I live in Miami, FL and the accident happened in Fairfax, VA. Mr. Frei came highly recommended from attorney's in Florida. Mr. Frei resolved our lawsuit this month July 2014 extremely satisfactory. I am so grateful to Mr. Frei and his law team for their expertise, for being so thorough, considerate, patient and truly caring about his client (my uncle) in order to reach justice and the proper/fair restitution for damages my uncle suffered from then, now and the rest of his life. Mr. Frei is a true professional and gentleman with integrity...NOT easily found in today's society. I know because I have worked with many attorney's throughout my life, being a professional business person and I know the difference. That is "why" I am taking the time to write this accreditation...to help other's in need, seeking an EXCELLENT attorney and law firm. I "highly" recommend Attorney Steven Frei and his law firm. Sincerely, Michele & Jack from Florida

Steven Frei took my personal injury case noting that it was a strong case from the liability perspective. He asked for a few months time to finish anther case, which I granted him. A few months became nearly a year before he did anything on my case. He went to my deposition unprepared while preparing me for the deposition less than 24 hours before it. Without my permission and knowledge, Frei dissuaded my surgeon from being my expert witness only saying that "we need to find a new MD as he will not be a good witness." He also said that, "we have to non-suit the case so that we can find a new medical expert witness." That recommendation was only for the self serving purpose of not having to go to court to obtain permission to withdraw, which would require my presence in court and approval . After waiting four months, I emailed and called Frei repeatedly , asking where we were in finding a new expert medical witness. He never responded. I finally emailed his boss, the managing partner of the firm. The MP emailed back to me "Mr. Frei is no longer your attorney. You have to find a new attorney." Frei also refused to send me my file. I then filed a complaint with the VA State Bar. They asked Frei why he had refused to send the file (Rule 16 violation) and why he was no longer representing me. Frei responded that he could not represent me as I had filed a complaint against him with the VSB. The VSB chalolenged Frei, in return, with his boss's email, to find another attorney, as the reason for my complaint. There was no response. Mr. Frei also made unflattering, unprofessional remarks about the opposing counsel and about the attorney who referred me to him. Litigants needing representation in the area of Personal Injury should avoid Steven Frei and his law firm, Hall Sickels, Frei and Mims.

I decided to reach out and ultimately hire Ms. Pervaiz after receiving positive feedback from a friend. I am extremely happy with my decision because Ms. Pervaiz was very supportive and professional from beginning to end. At the time, I was in a very tight bind and conflicted on what to do next after reading about consequences that were levied on others in a similar situation to my own. I knew that I wanted to hire Ms. Pervaiz after the initial consultation because she was confident and provided me assurance right away. She had handled similar cases in the past that yielded positive results so I was much more comfortable after reading all the horror stories online. After the initial consultation, she gave me a list of documents to obtain so she can review, understand, and fully assess my case. After I sent over the documents, Ms. Pervaiz made herself available every day until my actual court date. This really put me at ease knowing that I could always reach out anytime I had any questions. I only called a few times mainly to ensure she had everything she needed but the initial checklist she gave me covered it all. On the actual court date, we agreed to meet early to go over any final questions and to explain the process in the courtroom. She made it really easy for me as she did all of the talking. She laid out potential scenarios, explained the details of each situation, and asked what outcome I would prefer. The case ended in a favorable outcome for which I am extremely grateful. I would gladly hire Ms. Pervaiz again and have recommended her to others.

I found Mr. Bodner to be quite honest and forthright in his assessment of my case. He clearly stated his outlook on my case, and the odds that were stacked against me. I took my chances with him, and to my delight – (all-be-it, could be short-lived), the case was eventually dismissed. Besides his un-pretentious nature, and his dignified professionalism, what makes Mr. Bodner so outstanding, was his intelligence and his “court-room” brilliance! Mark knows the law, and he was able to translate his knowledge into a win for me. Although he seems to be very busy, I would certainly recommend Mark to you. Thank You.

As a US citizen I required Dr Park to take over the procedure in order to bring my daughter (Minor under 18) to the country. All paperwork was filed the same day, we had a response and got confirmation in less than 3 month keeping me informed at all steps of the process. PRICELESS!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fairfax, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
