I spent a lot of time searching for an attorney that has experience in handling expungements in VA. VA is one of the toughest states to grant expungements and to handle it by yourself is pure stupidity. The next couple of days I spoke with many different attorneys via telephone and office consultation. Office: I visited Mr. Vincenzes Law firm in Fairfax where I was greeted by his secretary staff and offered coffee until my appointment time. Consultation: Mr. Vincenzes explained how the expungement process would work and what was needed from me. We agreed on a very reasonable price for 2 misdemeanor expungements. Mr.Vincenzes and his partner Josh understood the urgency I was facing being a college graduate wanting to enter the Law Enforcement profession. I did not want this youthful mistake haunting my future. Mr. Vincenzes and Joshua kept me informed and updated me with any news relating to my case. Court: The prosecutor was hesitant to approve BOTH expungements. However, Mr. Vincenzes did not go down without a fight. He was able to explain to the judge every reason why it should be granted. Believe me, This is an attorney that is very skilled ( I trust him with my life). His Experience & knowledge in the courtroom and law is magnificent. If I EVER needed any legal assistance in the future, I know who to go too. Give him a call and you won't be disappointed. Mr. Vincenzes and Josh are confident, caring, and trustworthy when it comes to handling your case.

Brent is always looking out for your best interest. He truly cares about his clients. I have used him three times and every time, he has achieved the best outcome possible. In my recent case, he set out to achieve 3 objectives and he did it! Both Brent and Sean are creative and are able to think outside of the box. They know many of the prosecutors, judges, and police officers in Fairfax County and that can only help! Brent is also very responsive and flexible. His assistant, Josh, is also very helpful. You will definitely get the A+++ team if you hire Vincenzes Law.

Hired for Two criminal charges and I was saved by Brent!!!! Review for Brenton D. Vincenzes When I was charged two, yes two i really thought my life was over. I had never been in trouble with the law and I was personally battling anxiety depression, and PTSD. The criminal charges were false alarm calls to Loudoun County EMT and deputies and the second was in Fairfax County for disorderly conduct. Fortunately, I went through AVVO and found Brent and his right hand man Sean ( a former prosecutor.) This is the BEST DECISION I MADE. TRUST ME. All got plead out and no jail time for me. I will always remember how thoughtful and considerate they were towards me and as caring. They took their time and really i can’t thank them enough. If you don’t hire Brent you are making a huge mistake. I was looking at a year in jail. I got no jail time. I am and will always be grateful to Brent and Sean. Professional, smart as hell confident. . I had no doubt he would do what he needed to do and HE DID!! Stella, Fairfax VA

I had the pleasure of having Brent Vincenzes as my lawyer. He is amazing! I had him for a case in Fairfax. It was for a speeding ticket but I had to have it lowered or dropped because I had another ticket in Prince William coming up and that was one a little more serious. So with my driving record, I could not afford to lose that many demerit points. Also being on my parents insurance, I could not have them find out about my three tickets in a duration of one month. I found Brent on Avvo. He had a 10/10 so I thought, "Okay let me have a consultation." He literally won me over during the phone conversation. He gained my trust and assured me. He is also very confident and seems to know the prosecutors well too. He did his research, talked to the prosecutor, and managed to get me failure to pay full time and attention. WHICH was amazing because it did not drop any points and I only had to pay 100+ court fees. This also did not hit the DMV records. Brent is super charming and intellectual. I hope I do not have to get a lawyer again for anything, but I would trust this guy with my life. He is also super responsive via text/email/phone. He managed to assure me multiple times that it will go okay, and it went better than okay. He also uses this online portal place you can pay, message him, or upload documents. SO AMAZING. 11/10 (Not even a 10) do recommend to all.

I had just turned 18, and I was with friends in a parking lot. I was being stupid, and unfortunately I was charged with possession of marijuana. At first I was not that worried, but as I did research I began to realize how serious this charge really was for my future. As an adult, convictions or deferred dispositions cannot be expunged in Virginia. If I had taken the 1st offenders program, my record would be permanently mutilated with a drug offense. I was worried sick, and I searched for an attorney. From the outset, I could tell that Brent was extremely knowledgable in these types of cases. In addition, I had consultations with other lawyers, but Brenton's calm nature and his obvious concern for my future is what ultimately led me to retain his services. I was not disappointed. His relationships with prosecutors, excellent negotiation skills, and his extensive knowledge of the law impressed me. Brent was able to demonstrate my otherwise good character to the prosecutor (community service, drug test, good grades), and thus I was given a second chance. In the end, as the officer who arrested me explained what was going to happen, he specifically mentioned how my attorney was "a really good guy," and I honestly cannot think of a better way to describe him. If you are facing any criminal charges in Northern Virginia, I highly recommend that you retain Vincenzes.

Cristina is an absolutely amazing attorney. Her level of professionalism is above what is to be expected. After I had received a reckless driving charge for speeding, I was extremely frightened and worried as I am from out of state and did not know what to expect. I thoroughly did my research and contacted several attorneys regarding my case. None of them had the passion, integrity, and the desire for the pursuit of Justice like Mr Kim did! I am so happy I chose Mr. Kim to represent me! Mr Kim is kind, caring, and compassionate. He went above and beyond to help me. He answered all my questions, laid out a plan, and utilized the best strategy for my case. My case ended up getting reduced to a speeding infraction. I was so pleased with the service, compassion, and professionalism of Daniel Kim! Thank you so much for your service and for all the good you do for others! Highly recommended!

I called Michael Shevlin this evening about a medical malpractice case for myself. Michael was calm, informative and incredibly helpful. Even though I only spoke with him for 15 minutes, he took the time to listen to me and gave me options. It’s rare to find people in this world who can give you honest advice that is not self-serving, this was not my experience with this attorney. He is a good person.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fairfax, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
