When I learned that my speeding ticket was considered reckless driving in fairfax county my anxiety level went through the roof. Thank God I found Carlos and the Gordan Law firm. They were professional and easy to talk to. I was given excellent advice over the phone and I felt far better after talking to them. I am happy to report they got my reckless driving knocked down to a regular speeding ticket. Thank you!!

Mr. Wall is the go to lawyer if you're in trouble in Fairfax County. He turned a hellish experience that seemed like the end of the world into a hopeful one. Many lawyers will tell you what you wanna hear. Carlos will give it to you straight. it will be scary as in any case when you're in trouble with the law but rest assured, he'll do his best and most likely work his magic for you. I was facing a felony charge with priors and somehow got me the best possible outcome (dismissal). Not every case is the same but this dude is top notch. he will ask you about your immigration status if you're not a citizen yet and consult with immigration lawyers on your behalf to give you the best outcome possible. I spoke with 4 other lawyers and none of them asked me about my immigration status, but he did. All in all, I'm glad I retained Mr. Wall's and The Gordon Law Firm's services because they are truly the best at what they do and priced very reasonably. All it takes a Google search and you'll find that Mr. Wall has been involved in some high profile cases in the area and is said to be one of the best and high rising stars in his field. I knew I was in great hands when he stood by me in front of the Judge. The prosecutor and Judge both respected the guy. if you're in trouble, hire this dude.

In all my life I have never been happier to write a positive review for someone. Please believe me when I say Carlos is the best attorney in the East Coast. Twice I've found myself in situations that I thought I had no chance of getting out of. I couldn't sleep or eat without stressing and thinking about what would happen if I was convicted of the charges being brought against me. And guess what? This man made both of them go away. The thing I love most about Carlos is he doesn't give the impression that you're simply a business transaction like some lawyers do, he truly cares about you. Without trust in the relationship, you have nothing. I trust this man with my life, and just talking to him made me feel so much better. He's reassuring, always maintains a positive attitude, and is extremely intelligent. Seeing him work was a pleasure, and gratifying; he's an outstanding lawyer. Please if you ever find yourself in need of a lawyer, do yourself a huge favor and hire Carlos. He will do everything in his power to help you, which is all you can ask. Having someone in your corner who will give their all and never give up is priceless. The funny thing is, I literally never write reviews, but I couldn't wait to write this one. It's truly hard to put in words how grateful I am that I had Carlos on my side, please do yourself a favor and hire him.

Cristina is an absolutely amazing attorney. Her level of professionalism is above what is to be expected. I was completely distraught with the complexity of my child custody case and Cristina clearly explained the process to me which left me feeling much more confident for a successful outcome. I would highly recommend Cristina to anyone looking for an attorney.

After I had received a reckless driving charge for speeding, I was extremely frightened and worried as I am from out of state and did not know what to expect. I thoroughly did my research and contacted several attorneys regarding my case. None of them had the passion, integrity, and the desire for the pursuit of Justice like Mr Kim did! I am so happy I chose Mr. Kim to represent me! Mr Kim is kind, caring, and compassionate. He went above and beyond to help me. He answered all my questions, laid out a plan, and utilized the best strategy for my case. My case ended up getting reduced to a speeding infraction. I was so pleased with the service, compassion, and professionalism of Daniel Kim! Thank you so much for your service and for all the good you do for others! Highly recommended!

I called Michael Shevlin this evening about a medical malpractice case for myself. Michael was calm, informative and incredibly helpful. Even though I only spoke with him for 15 minutes, he took the time to listen to me and gave me options. It’s rare to find people in this world who can give you honest advice that is not self-serving, this was not my experience with this attorney. He is a good person.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fairfax, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
