Lysandra helped me with questions I had regarding the Adjustment of Status I-130 and I-485 application. She explained my options regarding I-131 travel parole and biometrics. Due to the current Covid situation, no lawyer can speed things up and she was honest about that. She was very informative and provided great advice. Thank you so much!

Mrs. Pachuta represented me in 2015 for a heafty possession charge in Fairfax County in August 2015. After speaking with other lawyers who spoke about going to trial and some jail time or probation. I was a bit scared and had no idea what to do. Found her here on Avvo, and from the consultation to the hearing she kept me well informed and confident in the best outcome. Long story short it only made to the hearing with a verdict of nolle prosequi. Thanks to her it was a stepping stone to getting my life back together. Forward 5 years later, I'm returning to her for a reckless ticket because of how well she represented me in the past.

As many of you might know or heard, having a conviction or a DWI charge is something scary to even encounter and a lifetime experience. As I was searching for lawyers in Virginia and I happen to click on Lysandra Pachuta. I called her law firm and was treated wonderful by the customer representative and everyone that works there. I made an appointment and they work with my schedule. After explaining my case to her, she listened carefully and explain to me the odds of winning the case but also told me there was hope. I was afraid of the consequences of my bad actions but talking to her gave me some type of comfort. On what was suppose to be my last hearing, she happen to give birth. I was very nervous but I was very happy to find out she had the baby. As the following weeks had passed, I showed up to my hearing, she explained to me what was going to be her argument and very please to say I was not convicted of the DWI and the case was dismissed. I am very thankful and have so much gratitude for her hard work and effort she put in my case. I recommend her and her colleagues in case you encounter similar situations.

I contacted Lysandra based on reviews and input for a third party and she did not disappoint. I was charged with a DIP that I beleive was unwarranted so I contacted her office to schedule a consultation. Lysandra listened to my side of the story and was very honest with her feedback and provided me with several options on how to move forward. I immediately hired her for what I thought was a fair fee for her services. I followed her advice on how to fight the charge and she was eventually able to get the prosecutor to recommend a nolle prosequi to the judge which was the best result we could have asked for. Lysandra was quick to follow up on any questions that I had throughout the process and even went to the court a few weeks after my hearing so that she could mail my the original copy of my disposition.

Cristina is an absolutely amazing attorney. Her level of professionalism is above what is to be expected. I was completely distraught with the complexity of my child custody case and Cristina clearly explained the process to me which left me feeling much more confident for a successful outcome. I would highly recommend Cristina to anyone looking for an attorney.

After I had received a reckless driving charge for speeding, I was extremely frightened and worried as I am from out of state and did not know what to expect. I thoroughly did my research and contacted several attorneys regarding my case. None of them had the passion, integrity, and the desire for the pursuit of Justice like Mr Kim did! I am so happy I chose Mr. Kim to represent me! Mr Kim is kind, caring, and compassionate. He went above and beyond to help me. He answered all my questions, laid out a plan, and utilized the best strategy for my case. My case ended up getting reduced to a speeding infraction. I was so pleased with the service, compassion, and professionalism of Daniel Kim! Thank you so much for your service and for all the good you do for others! Highly recommended!

I called Michael Shevlin this evening about a medical malpractice case for myself. Michael was calm, informative and incredibly helpful. Even though I only spoke with him for 15 minutes, he took the time to listen to me and gave me options. It’s rare to find people in this world who can give you honest advice that is not self-serving, this was not my experience with this attorney. He is a good person.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fairfax, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
