Mr. Kensky represented my mother in her case this past month and working with Mr. Kensky was relieving. Mr. Kensky was sympathetic and honest to our situation. He made sure to be attentive to all details when speaking to him about the case. We reached out to his office for a consultation and were able to get an appointment the next day. From the first meeting, Mr. Kensky was knowledgeable and honest when providing his opinion. My mother and I were really stressed regarding the court date and the false accusations made. From the first consultation until the court date, we had 5 meetings with Mr. Kensky in a short amount of time. Those meetings were very efficient and focused on what we needed to prepare for the court date. The meetings were long hours to be able to get through everything we needed to cover before the court date. Mr. Kensky helped us get through it and set us up to be in the best position possible for the court date. He explained his plan and thoughts in regards to everything presented to him, which helped my mother and I feel reassured as we prepared. We could not push the court date further so it was a busy couple of weeks leading up to the court date, but Mr. Kensky delivered. English is not my mother’s first language. Therefore, it requires patience and understanding during preparation to make sure everything is articulated and nothing is left out when going over evidence and preparing for the court date when going back and forth between English and Spanish. He took notes, made sure he went over facts and evidence multiple times, and thought out all possible outcomes for everything discussed. Through all this, he didn’t waiver and was not impatient when I was transitioning between English and Spanish. This made my mom feel extremely comfortable and helped relieve a little of the stress from situation we were facing. By the final meeting, we had gone through everything we had in regard to evidence and had discussed all possible outcomes. The anxiety of the court date the next day was a lot, but that meeting really was the last stretch before the court date. Mr. Kensky went through topics again that we needed to cover and was reassuring that we had the truth on our side. He also confirmed multiple times to make sure there was an interpreter requested for the court date. The actual court date was a very long day, unexpectedly. My mother and I were nervous but Mr. Kensky had our case dismissed thankfully. During the court hearing, my mother was nervous based on the topics heard but Mr. Kensky was reassuring and encouraging that we were in a great position for our case. My mother did not have to speak once thankfully and he got our case dismissed without needed her and I to speak. After the case was dismissed, Mr. Kensky spoke to the other party to attempt to come to a resolution in regard to the situation. It showed that he his goal was to dismiss the case, but also attempt to offer a solution between us (my mother and I) and the other party. I am extremely grateful to have met and have had Mr. Kensky represent us. It’s difficult to have someone dig through all the information we provided and make sense of it for presentation during court. Mr. Kensky handled that extremely well and represented us in court with the same effort. He really is a great attorney to have on your side with his expertise and grace in managing the case during what was a difficult time for my mother and I.

I highly recommend Mr. Kensky as an attorney based on the experience I had with him recently for a case he represented me on. He worked long hours and many meetings with me to go over evidence, details, and information related to my case. He also demonstrated patience with me as English is not my first language. I was able to feel very comfortable with him and see that he was putting his best effort to help defend me in my case. He was able to get case dismissed thankfully. There were many hours of stress when going through all the information and evidence, but his confidence when processing the information and our discussion helped reassure me during those meetings. Throughout my case, Mr. Kensky and Alana were very quick to respond to any question I had. I would either call the office or email Alana, and I would receive a response very quickly. I was grateful for the quick turnaround and responses during this time. The day of the court date, I was nervous based on the accusations heard but Mr. Kensky defended me with confidence and reassured me that the hearing was going well. He defended me with all the information I provided and I did not have to speak during the hearing. I was grateful when the case was dismissed thanks to Mr. Kensky defending me during my hearing with the truth.

If I could select a 6th star, Danielle is the one that deserves it. I have dealt with numerus attorneys in the past and all fall short of her. Danielle practiced the utmost professionalism and integrity in dealing with my cases. She is compassionate to her clients but also result driven to make sure they get the best outcome possible. She constantly kept me in the loop and would field my worrisome phone calls, even though I am sure I was a pest. She is brilliant in her approaches to dealing with situations. You can tell she is respected amongst other attorneys and judges which goes a long way. When other attorneys told me certain outcomes were impossible, I brought it to Danielle, and she solved it. She is a modern-day Houdini in my eyes. I could not be more grateful for all the hard work she has done for me and I can rest assure I would never use another attorney, nor recommend one. She is definition of what a young upcoming attorney should be. I can confidently say she is a blessing to the law community and will remain at the top, as her career continues. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Danielle. I wish you nothing but the best moving forward in your career.

Alex Laufer took my case and represented me throughout a long and challenging insurance settlement following a vehicle accident that caused me irreparable injury and chronic pain. He worked the case with determination and resourceful strategy and obtained a settlement that was fair to all parties. Most important to me, he obtained that result with unquestionable integrity, and without causing animosity or ill will with the insurance companies and parties involved. When the case was concluded, everyone walked away from the experience with the sense that it was a routine business transaction. If I ever need a lawyer again, I will not hesitate to call Alex or his law firm for help.

Alex Laufer is a great attorney for many of your legal needs. I have used him for many areas dealing with real estate, real estate settlements, contracts and general business issues. I have referred many clients, both business and personal) to him and his firm and in each instance he was able to help the client or myself in regard to our legal needs.

Mr. Laufar not only approached the case as requested, he also introduced other variables that resulted in a larger award. He explained parts of the law that we were not aware of at the time. Had we gone to Mr. Laufar 6 months earlier, we would have had a much larger award than obtained at the end of the case. If any follow-up work is required, we will definitely go back to Mr. Laufar and we do recommend him for any legal action.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fairfax, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
