My attorney is a partner. The firm was originally Duvall, Blackburn, and Hale in the early 80s, so an established and experienced law office. Conveniently located near Fairfax courthouse, with parking.

Jean Ball & her team ( especially Maura ) provided exemplary service so as I was able to complete my fiduciary responsibilities for my great Aunt Penny’s estate. Even with the small size of the estate and my many challenges throughout the process, she was very knowledgeable, kind, thoughtful & responsive. I highly recommend Jean Ball!

Excellent firm. Samantha Fredieu, my current and future attorney, did an outstanding job during our litigation, and we won our case. She was attentive to the details which I think help in organizing our defense and ultimately prevail. I plan to use this firm for all of my legal needs.

My husband and I had our estate planning done at Hale Ball. We were only thinking about our wills when we started the process, but our lawyer, Loretta Morris Williams advised us to also put our Medical and Financial directives in place. Ms. Williams spent time explaining every document to us, and we had the whole process wrapped up in a month including the editing and back-and-forth process. I highly recommend Hale Ball and Ms. Williams in particular. She's very knowledgeable, pleasant and professional - as apprehensive we were about doing this, we're so relieved that we're done!

First of all, Attorney Kim Murphy is THE BEST. she's kind but she's fierce and extremely intelligent. If you need an Estate assistance, her and her associates are the ones for the job. She is worth every penny. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here.

One year of BS with this firm. Finally stepped down in May and I have gotten more done without them. I hired another attorney to advise me of things to be filled and when. This firm is horrible, I have done more in 3 months then they did in 9 months. The estate is almost closed and done thanks to me. They did nothing but write letters and send documents and was concerned about things that we told them not to worry about. I would not recommend this firm to anyone grieving a family member and they don't listen to you or your families requests. Things were much harder with them then without them. Unfortunately, I am still dealing with things they did not do and have to deal with them to get things finished because they were to lazy to send letters in May to say they were off the case. I don't recommend them at all. one year is next month and all we want to do is grieve, but yet we are still dealing with this firms blunders and uncompleted tasks.

On February 6, 2019, I posted the following review and the very next day I received a call from Mr. Mattson requesting I take it down and that he’d attend to my matter as soon as possible. Well, I shouldn’t have because here I am being forced to post it again. He has made absolutely no progress in my case (a simple uncontested divorce at this point) since then and every time I try to contact him, it’s next week or the week after that my divorce will be finalized. Before you retain his services, you should be aware of my experience: Mr. Mattson gave me a basic description of my divorce proceedings at our initial consultation but spent the next hour talking about the kind of “great and aggressive” representation he’s going to provide. He also made a lot of predictions in my benefit that were solely for the purpose of charging for them later. I know this now because almost all of those predictions did not apply in my case and/or were unachievable. Once he was retained, however, for the first four months I did not hear anything from him. He was very hard to reach and didn’t consider the basic courtesy of promptly returning phone calls to give me an update and/or answer my question(s). He never acknowledged any of my emails which forced me to call for days and when I could finally reach him through his paralegal, we started all over again simply because he hadn’t gotten anything done and again, he’d charge me for that phone call. Furthermore, all of his bills are padded and almost everything is completed by the paralegal while he charges top dollar for his time. After ten-month long delays, frustration and wasting money for no reason, there was a big discrepancy in the billing. When I dug into it, I realized that he charged me 2.7 hours ($1,120.50) for a telephone conference when according to my phone log it took exactly 39 minutes and 9 seconds ($161.85). He charged me $207.50 for another telephone conference which according to my phone log never happened. He also charged me for other services that were never provided. All of this was totaling $1,830.15. After I initially posted this review back in February and sent his paralegal a detailed email along with prove showing that the bills are blatantly padded, he immediately issued a refund for just $1,000 and I let him keep the other $830.15 so he can use that money as a retainer to finalize my divorce. In summary, as they say that there’s no guarantee of competence and honesty when you hire a lawyer, this may very well be the case. I urge you to acquire your services elsewhere or you’ll be disappointed.

Paralegal Sherry was superb with prompt communication and assistance with making a difficult process understandable and as smooth as possible. Although my legal matter may not have been as complicated as other clients, the team treated my case just as important.
