Jason Weis and his paralegal Jenny deserve this 5 star review, from a client that is also an attorney with over 20 years of courtroom experience. I consulted with Jason for a unique and complex situation with a short time table. While I wished that I could handle the matter myself, I knew that I needed just the right attorney to be my voice in this situation. Taking my case required Mr. Weis to process alot of information needing to be compiled and presented in a compelling and precise way, with little time to spare. I was not an easy client, as this situation had already caused me and my family quite alot of stress and emotional trauma. I needed someone to advocate for ME this time, and Jason came through for me. Jason was beyond patient, compassionate, honest, thorough and professional. In court, he was prepared, confident, and articulate. It was immediately apparent that he and opposing counsel were on completely different skill levels. I was impressed with Jason's knowledge of the legal issues, the evidence, and the evidentiary rules and potential objections and responses. The outcome was solidly in my favor. I can't thank him enough.

Steve Goldman and his team did an incredible job; if you are looking for an attorney that specializes in navigating high conflict divorce with child custody I would recommend Steve. He is realistic, honest, hardworking, fair, and direct, all qualities you need as you move through the court systems and divorce. Steve is also a family man and very understanding as to the emotional complexities you will be personally dealing with. I would recommend Steve to anyone and I feel extremely blessed to have had him and his team throughout a very difficult legal process.

Grant Moher and his firm has a solid background in addressing family law issues that pertain to military families. They are well positioned to help all service members, veterans, and their dependents. I found Grant Moher and his staff to be exceptional in their expertise, availability and respond quickly to my questions with kind and compassionate support. My case involves ongoing spousal support issues. Military divorces are very stressful events that involve overlapping military family law issues and Grant Moher and his team was incredibly helpful and seemed to have my best interest.

Grant and his team are an amazing group of people. Grant was able to step into my case midway and navigate through all the complexities with visitation, custody and financials relating to the PSA. He saved me time in court by being able to strongly negotiate my terms using various strategies to get the other side to come to terms. I especially found is demeanor to be most reassuring, he uses a fact-based approach to resolve issues and really stands his ground. He truly fought for me and my children. He also fought for my financial well being, he created agreements that stated remedies I could take on my own if the terms were defied. This helped preventing going back and forth in court. I really appreciate that he was thoughtful, thorough and proactive.

He was clearly very knowledgeable and his communication was excellent. He has a unique ability to listen as well as communicate open issues in an easy to understand manner which I greatly appreciated. If you need assistance I would not hesitate to use Grant as he is honest and professional.

I canceled my appointment with a different lawyer when I red her dreadful reviews. I searched and found Robert who had most perfect review counts. I am glad to report that i found Bob to be very professional in the way he managed our case. I have to add that his charges were more than fair and we will certainly recommend him.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fairfax, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
