I cannot say enough about the Bosson Legal Group, Tim Bosson, and their steady, sure legal hand. Tim has guided me through rough seas each time I’ve needed it – offering wise counsel with a human touch. My company and I have faced three tough contract negotiations – one in 2013 and two very recently. Each time Tim has guided us through, energetically representing our interests and proposing a fair resolution that got us to the finish line. When necessary, Tim offers a firm, uncompromising approach: In 2013, an independent contractor pursued a frivolous lawsuit against my company, and Tim hit right back. He secured us a favorable judgment in short order, tossing the matter entirely out of court. Tim’s judgment and legal instincts have been extraordinary down through the years, each and every time. Thank you, Tim!

Tim Bosson represented me in a case brought by a hostile, dishonest, and aggressive opposing counsel. His calmness, his competence and his honorable behavior in the face of it all helped me to keep a lid on the emotion and to keep "doing the next thing" throughout the process. He continually helped to refocus me on the important issues and helped me to do the difficult work of ignoring the personal attacks and hostility. He was quick to seek additional advice and expertise, careful about the details, responsive to my concerns and fears along the way, reassuring about the aggressive tactics of opposing counsel, and took the time to explain the process to me. His behavior made a stark contrast to the behavior of opposing counsel, and helped me to stay focused on the issues and outcomes that were most important to me. The litigation was painful and difficult, but it made a difference to have a true advocate by my side during the process. Professionally speaking, Tim is skilled, thorough and talented. He is also a calming, reassuring presence who takes his clients' interests seriously.

“Tim is honest he will tell you what you need to hear not what you want to hear. He is extremely knowledgeable in the laws what can and can't be done.”
3

“Professionally speaking, Tim is skilled, thorough and talented. He is also a calming, reassuring presence who takes his clients' interests seriously.”
4
Provided excellent representation in a difficult case with aggressive opposing counsel

Cons
1
Unresponsive with updates and negative about the strength of the case
“He was not responsive with updates, very negative about the strength of my case, and on a few occasions he spent more time getting matters resolved relative to my previous employers concerns than he did for my own concerns.”
2
Dismissive of client's requests and made comments about his own reputation
“He made comments that he and the other attorney 'are the best in the Washington DC area', that my case was weak and I should settle for the minimum, and constantly argued with me about requests I made for health insurance and unemployment insurance, indicating that it never is awarded to people and I shouldn't ask for it.”
3
Delayed invoicing and refused to return client's retainer
“As of October, I have not received an invoice from him for services since the inception of the case at the beginning of July. Part of the settlement negotiated was for my previous employer to pay all of my legal costs, yet Mr Bosson refused to return my retainer stating that until the final invoice is calculated it will continue to be held.”

Reached out to this firm on a whim because they seemed highly-rated, and don't regret the decision in the slightest. They responded back almost immediately to my inquiry, and that was the first of many good signs from them. I worked with Sarah, who was kind, compassionate, and personable before, during, and at the end of my case. Overall, I would highly recommend Robinson Law.

I’ve worked with Mr. Sodowsky, Ms. Kim and the entire Sodowsky Law Firm for years. They have helped me step by step to turn a huge nightmare into a new lease on life. They have been there through all the highs/lows one experiences when you have very serious tax issues. Through it all, they gave me expert advice but were also the most decent people to work with. Their hope, honesty and general kindness kept me upbeat and knowing the light at the end of the tunnel was near.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fairfax, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
