My husband and I were incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Michael Dietz on our estate planning process. We approached this task with a bit of resistance as in the past it has felt onerous and confusing -- our experience with Michael was completely different. His demeaner made us feel immediately comfortable and he made the whole experience simple and straightforward. He was responsive, thorough, and knowledgeable. I cannot recommend him more highly!

I met Chanda after taking divorce classes at the Women's Center and hiring and firing two awful lawyers. The first was dishonest and the second was from a firm that charged a high retainer and exorbitant hourly fees and then took days/weeks to return emails. I ended up paying a lot over three months for them to create one document that went nowhere. They didn't offer wise counsel and just sat on things to get the case to court and squeeze more money from me and other clients. After months of their ineptitude and greed with no end in sight, I found Chanda. She has been a blessing and is simply, THE BEST ATTORNEY IN THE WORLD! TOP 10 REASONS WHY SHE'S THE BEST: Chanda is honest, intelligent, rational/logical, experienced, fair, kind, courteous, prompt, hard-working and efficient. She is on top of everything. Chanda will actually get in touch with you vs. you trying hard to reach her. She responds to emails!!! What a breath of fresh air! That is the beauty of working with an attorney from a small boutique law firm who has years of experience and cares about her clients. At our first meeting, Chanda met with me in her warm and welcoming office which is beautiful, well located and unlike all the corporate firms I had visited before. She listened intently and gave me a realistic appraisal of what to expect. Chanda did not waste my time or money. She helped me figure out what I wanted most. I shared my 10 points with her and within two days, she wrote them into terms in such a factual, fair and kind writing style that my ex-husband immediately responded that he was surprised and agreed with 95% of it. We worked out the details and signed terms within a month! THAT IS THE MAGIC OF CHANDA KINSEY. Don't waste your time and money on the sadly, millions of inept, dishonest and greedy lawyers out there. Sorry to give them a bad name but after meeting and hiring so many awful ones who cared only about their pockets, I was happy I decided not to pursue law and realized how rare it is to find a good one. CHANDA IS A GEM. She made me feel that whether I was the wife or husband, she'd be equitable. My ex-husband liked her so much, he ended up firing his attorney who likely wanted things to go to court and hired a notary so we could sign terms and move on! YES, SHE'S THAT AWESOME! Chanda will help you get to the finish line. I hope no one has to go through the ordeal I went through in finding a respectable attorney. I'm so glad I found her. Look no further. Save your time and money and put your trust in an attorney who actually cares about justice and her clients. She is worth every minute and dollar I spent. A blessing from heaven. CALL CHANDA TODAY! GOOD LUCK!

Another victory and an exemplary proof that nothing can beat Ms. Kinsey. My ex-wife who attempted to obtain a restraining order against me based on false allegations, has faced a humiliating defeat, where the court quashed her request citing that the allegations were not 'Credible'. This wouldn't have been possible without Ms. Kinsey's ability to effectively present the case and expose the lies. --- My ex-wife tried to play yet another ploy, where she filed 'motion to rehear' to have the court reopen the child custody case citing falsely that she was coerced into signing the child custody documents earlier. I witnessed Ms. Kinsey roared in the court, she fought ferociously and argued so effectively that left all of us in awe. And not to mention we won the case!. I and my daughter shall always be thankful to Ms. Kinsey and her team.

Ms. Kinsey has been so caring and compassionate, a great listener and patient. She listened to what I wanted and explained what will work out best for me. I got the highest care and professionalism from her. Ms. Kinsey got me full legal and physical custody of my daughter in the absentia of my runaway ex-wife. Ms. Kinsey was calm when I was frantic and spoke effectively on my behalf when I had a hard time finding my own voice. I couldn't possible recommend her more highly. Ms. Chanda Kinsey is the absolute best!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fairfax, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
