I had the pleasure of working with Maddox & Gerock on a recent legal matter, and I couldn't have been more impressed. Their expertise and professionalism shone through in every interaction we had. Not only were they highly knowledgeable in their field, but they also took the time to explain complex legal jargon in a way that was easy for me to understand. Moreover, their dedication to my case and timely communication made the entire process smooth and stress-free. I am grateful for their exceptional legal representation and would highly recommend them to anyone in need of legal assistance. Special thanks to Tashina Gorgone as she stood by my side till the end of the case and we achieved amazing results due to her hard work and proficiency.

I worked with Katharine Maddox, with Karrie Dodson as support. Katharine is absolutely brilliant and insanely strategic. She speaks internationally at various conferences and is an established expert, to say nothing of the fact that she’s a total delight to work with. I had a complex case with grim prospects and she KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK. Karrie was equally lovely to work with, is sharp as a tack, and ensured that all bases were covered. Superb communication—I was NEVER left wondering what the status of my matter was or what direction we were going in.

Julie Gerock is my go-to choice for family law referrals in Northern Virginia. Julie is a skilled family lawyer who is used to handling complex cases, including spousal and child support, child custody, visitation, relocation, and international family law cases. She is also a sought after speaker at continuing legal education seminars and a leader in her field. I would not hesitate contacting Julie and her firm for your needs.

I recently had the privilege of working with William (Billy) Waller, my divorce attorney, and I can't recommend him highly enough. Going through a divorce is a challenging journey, both personally and from a business perspective, but Billy's exceptional skills and dedication made all the difference. Right from the start, Billy took the time to truly understand my situation and the goals I had in mind for the divorce proceedings. His in-depth knowledge of Virginia family law was evident as he guided me through each step with utmost clarity and precision. I greatly appreciated his ability to explain complex legal concepts in a way that was easily understandable, which helped alleviate much of the stress associated with such a situation. While the cost of divorce proceedings can be a concern, I found Billy's hourly charges to be fair and reasonable, considering the outstanding level of service he provided. Throughout the process, Billy consistently demonstrated his unwavering commitment to his clients. He went above and beyond to ensure that I felt supported and well-informed, providing invaluable guidance during this challenging time. One of the most impressive aspects of Billy's work was his exceptional negotiation skills. Despite facing unexpected challenges and curveballs thrown by the other party, Billy skillfully navigated through all obstacles that came our way. His ability to overcome these hurdles and reach favorable outcomes was truly commendable. What sets Billy apart is not only his legal expertise, but also his knowledge and understanding of LGBTQAI+ cases. This makes him an invaluable asset for individuals seeking assistance in those specific areas. Having an attorney who is knowledgeable in LGBTQAI+ matters brings an additional layer of expertise and sensitivity to his practice. Furthermore, Billy's unwavering dedication and support provided me with a sense of security during a time when I felt voiceless and overwhelmed. He stood by my side as a strong advocate, offering guidance and reassurance. His unwavering commitment and support made an immeasurable difference in my case, particularly when dealing with the manipulative tactics of my ex-husband. In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend Billy Waller as a divorce attorney. His exceptional legal skills, dedication to his clients, and ability to navigate even the most challenging circumstances make him a standout choice. If you are searching for an attorney who will prioritize your best interests, provide unwavering support, and help you achieve your desired goals, look no further than Billy Waller.

I am grateful for mister rasul. there are many remarkable things that set his firm apart from others. Firstly I’m thankful because he won my case of cancellation of removal (deportation) and worked really hard along with his team to present a very strong case. He also got my mom her US citizenship which many people had told me would be a waste of time to try because of her limitations speaking the English language. Him and his staff members take their time meeting with you plenty of times before you have to appear in court. I particularly appreciate his mindfulness when it comes to pricing as he is not a greedy lawyer by any means and understands many immigrants don’t always have the best paying jobs. he is there to assist you if needed (he went to the citizenship interview with my mom) He also offers monthly payment plans which is extremely helpful. I now have told my close friends about mister rasul and because of my case results they will be making an appointment with him. I think he is the ideal lawyer because he is focused on one thing and one outcome: winning your case.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Falls Church, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
