Pros
1
Attentive and intuitive in handling legal matters
“As a small business owner it's inevitable that you will need a lawyer every now and then. I have worked with Mr. Blaser a few times now and he is attentive, intuitive and truly cares about getting the best result, not just racking up the hours.”
2
Demonstrates empathy and responsiveness
“Tyler went beyond my expectations for his due diligence. He took the time to explain the process in a way that I could understand; provide candid guidance throughout my case so I could make informed decisions; and demonstrated sincere empathy and responsiveness for the challenges of my situation.”
3
Provides excellent guidance and communication
“Brad Marshall provided us with several avenues we could pursue for a traffic ticket, presented the pros and cons of each option, and once we decided he did exactly as we asked and delivered the results we expected.”
4
Knowledgeable and experienced in legal matters
“His experience in being a prosecutor also allows him to fully understand both sides and to play that scenario through.”
5
Efficient and able to achieve favorable outcomes
“Brad Marshall did a wonderful job working a reckless driving charge for me! Communication was excellent and he kept me up to date with everything through the entire process. I cannot say enough good things about my experience with having Mr. Marshall represent me on my case.”
Cons
1
Disregard for client's instructions and objectives
“I hired him to write a letter to a contractor and be prepared to sue for fraud, misrepresentation and breach of contract. I asked and instructed him to keep all communication in writing with copies to me. After he wrote the initial letter, he engaged in unauthorized verbal conversations with the opposing attorney, fully adopted their position, and tried to pressure me into accepting their so-called solution, which was less to my advantage than what they had offered me before I hired Mr. Blaser!!”
2
Lack of transparency and communication
“Not only Mr. Blaser did not respect my legitimate objectives, not only did he not zealously represent me as any ethical lawyer would have, but he advocated the adversary's position and paid himself for this behavior from my retainer, which he never returned (fully or partially).”

Hiring Brad as my attorney was the best decision I have ever made. It was a process getting my driver's license restored but he led me through it entirely with great communication along the way!

I echo similar posts and give Mr. Marshall 10/10. He and his assistant provided excellent guidance and clear step by step instructions. He was able to get a reckless driving ticket dismissed completely with no DMV points or fine. Just the court fee! I hope to never have this situation again but if I do I’m using Brad.

Jean represented me in court for reckless driving - I did not have to be there. She was clear in writing what I had to do to satisfy my responsibility. Very professional!! I had a good driving record. She got the Commonwealth Attorney to agree to dismiss my charge of Speeding on September 12 , 2024.

Jean helped my son with his reckless driving citation. She told us what we should do to prepare for court and what we could expect once we got there. He did what she said and she delivered a great result. Thanks Jean

Responds in a timely matter, makes sure that any questions are answered, and actually cares. I felt very at ease with Mr. Esteves as my representation, he is a straight shooter and tells it as it is. I couldn't recommend him anymore!!

JC Estevez and Nicole Naum are phenomenal attorneys. I was accused of a heinous crime that I did not commit at the age of 16. They were extremely professional throughout the entire process. JC and Nicole always gave me the pros and cons of every situation that arose along the way. They spent numerous hours of time preparing every little detail for trial. After almost 4 years I finally had my chance in front of a jury and these two went to work on my behalf like no other. I was found not guilty and thanks to their expertise and believing in me I can now move on with my life. Thank you JC and Nicole.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Manassas, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
