Being falsely accused and facing down the full power of the state of Virginia is daunting. David Daugherty however, is the best David against Goliath imaginable in this case. David earned my full trust the moment I sat down in his office, and solidified my belief as he saw my case through to a dismissal. Do not hesitate- if you need a lawyer that will fight for you, and will make good on their reputation of being a fighter, he is your man.

I was charged with a class 6 felony and a misdemeanor charge back in October 2018. The same day I was arrested 2 of my family members were arrested and received the same charges as me but we hired different lawyers. The lawyer they hired was only able to get one of the charges dropped while I got both dismissed thanks to David. He is the man!!

If you find yourself in a bad situation and need help getting out of trouble call David. I was charged with a class 2 felony (malicious wounding) facing 10 years in jail if convicted. He was able to work a deal and get me off with two misdemeanor charges. Which was the best outcome possible for my case. Don’t get offended if scolds you if you do something wrong because I did something stupid when I was on pre trial release. He just looking out for you he always responds and is helping me out again. If your looking for a good lawyer and have no way of beating the charge. He has ways of getting you the best ultimate outcome for your case. I have used the Daughtery law firm on three different occasions, so If your looking for the best law firm in Prince Willam look no farther call David. His prices are reasonable for what he can do for you.

I was charged with two felonies one of which carried a mandatory 2 year minimum. My court date was pushed back 6 months which honestly were some of the worst days of my life. The day to day anxiety, wondering how long I would be in Jail, what my criminal record was gonna look like and how I would ever get a great job. Every happy moment was instantly ruined by the fear of what was to come. David answered all of my frantic calls and text reassuring me every time that he was gonna make sure I didn’t get a mandatory 2 years and that he would make sure I wouldn’t have a record with felonies. I had faith in him by honestly thought it was impossible. He gave me a fair price and gave me all 6 months to pay him back I didn’t finish my payments until 3 days before my court date. To make this long story short he got one really serious felony dismissed for a weekend in jail and the other will be dismissed after completion of 1 year of probation. Going from at least two years plus time for the sencond charge to probation and 3 days in jail was miraculously I was prepared for at least 6 months at best. This guy is amazing and if you ever need to be represented I suggest you choose him, you are making a mistake if you don’t. He is hands down one of the best lawyers Northern Virginia has and I’m lucky to have come across him.

Jean represented me in court for reckless driving - I did not have to be there. She was clear in writing what I had to do to satisfy my responsibility. Very professional!! I had a good driving record. She got the Commonwealth Attorney to agree to dismiss my charge of Speeding on September 12 , 2024.

JC Estevez and Nicole Naum are phenomenal attorneys. I was accused of a heinous crime that I did not commit at the age of 16. They were extremely professional throughout the entire process. JC and Nicole always gave me the pros and cons of every situation that arose along the way. They spent numerous hours of time preparing every little detail for trial. After almost 4 years I finally had my chance in front of a jury and these two went to work on my behalf like no other. I was found not guilty and thanks to their expertise and believing in me I can now move on with my life. Thank you JC and Nicole.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Manassas, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
