I am profoundly thankful for the expertise provided by Daugherty Luckey, PLLC, both in the past and present. From the outset, Mike has demonstrated thoroughness, integrity, and exceptional knowledge as we have worked through my challenging separation, divorce, and subsequent matters. I especially value the firm's swift responses, meticulous attention to detail, and strategic planning aimed at safeguarding my children's best interests. Mike and Kim are attentive listeners who strive to understand my concerns; they offer support while maintaining a firm stance, and their genuine care is evident.

Mr. Daugherty handled multiple cases for me. I was involved in a very controversial separation to divorce. Although I tried to work with my ex toward an amenable resolution and get treatment for his addiction issues, my ex's family and the opposing lawyer made that difficult when they proceeded to file multiple fraudulent claims against me. Mr. Daugherty stepped in several times to assist - he even went out of his way to make sure I was aware of legal proceedings he found out about that were purposely filed by the opposing parties behind my back. Although the opposing party was highly unethical and attempted to circumvent or delay any proceedings they knew they would be unsuccessful in, Mr. Daugherty was straightforward and honest with me in options to deal with such. Unfortunately, my ex lost his addiction battle and passed away and I continue to fight his family to get the compensation that is owed me and my children; however, Mr. Daugherty's assistance in making sure I safely got out of an abusive situation was worth the cost. Mr. Daugherty is not only patient and understanding but is also ethical, straightforward, honest, and reliable.

I often encounter Shawn in court and he always conducts himself professionally and ethically. He is extremely knowledgeable, and I feel that Shawn really does have the best interest of his clients in mind. He is not an attorney that just wants to settle cases and move on. I often consult with him about legal issues, and he is always able to produce proper legal advice. Additionally, he has a wonderful relationship with the Judges and that goes a long way in criminal defense.

Mike took my pre-existing case when my previous lawyer had a schedule conflict. Right out the gate, Mike made things extremely clear. I have spent two years fearful and worried about my custody case. In just a few days, Mike laid out the VA Code for custody, clearly explaining how things would go and what the rules are. This brought me such relief, as no one had ever done that. He listened to my fears, reassured me with the law, and worked quickly to get up to speed on my case with just about 2 weeks time to work. He was VERY good in the courtroom, his questioning of my ex husband helped show the court his true colors, and ultimately, he helped me protect my children from added time with their unstable and unreliable parent. Mike is an excellent and clear communicator, respectful and kind, has empathy, but gets the job done and knows how to deal with lying narcissists.

Michael assisted me through my separation with a protective order against my ex, a highly contentious divorce, and multiple other issues regarding a highly confrontational situation with my ex and his family. I cannot thank him enough for remaining honest and ethical while we dealt with the opposing party and council's uncooperative behavior and attempts to purposefully withhold information, delay proceedings, and get default judgments against me. Although I continue to deal with some issues following the unfortunate death of my ex-spouse, Michael's willingness to keep me informed at all times and his tenacity to ensure proceedings and documents were filed appropriately and suitably has allowed me to not only defend myself against multiple attempts to violate my rights but has also allowed me to ensure the ongoing safety and well-being of my children which has remained my utmost concern. I am forever grateful.

I contacted Michael Daugherty after feeling uncertain about my previous attorney, who suggested that I succumb to the opposing parties’ demand for a change in custody of my three children, when their initial cause for complaint had no basis in law. During the time I retained Mr. Daugherty’s counsel (13-months; 2 hearings, a deposition, preparation for a two-day custody trial, and many proposed settlement exchanges between parties), he never delayed in responding to emails and/or calls. In addition to his punctuality, Mr. Daugherty knows the law and paid attention to every detail surrounding my case, including mistakes made by the opposing party/counsel, who the judges were, how they could view and or rule on the case, and what to look for in the compilation of evidence to support my defense. His effective litigation skills were apparent and backed by law to support my interests and protect my rights. On the first day of the trial, the judge postponed immediately after Mr. Daugherty’s opening statement (which included a pretrial motion to exclude the opposing parties witness list because they did not follow legal protocols in revealing what they would testify to in the discovery). Eventually, the opposing party agreed to a fair and equitable settlement, the trial was dismissed, and I saved a lot of time and money. Mr. Daugherty is an excellent attorney with a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience in his legal field(s). He was honest, direct, and effective in all areas surrounding my case and I am so appreciative to have had his level of commitment and professional representation.
