I cannot explain what A rip off this law firm is!! They are irresponsive most of the times , poor case management and follow up. Nooo initiatives were creative whatsoever. No solutions were discussed whatsoever. They just take your money submit your file with the USCIS and at the end, they have the audacity to charge me money for emails I’ve sent and phone calls I’ve placed with them just to follow up on my case. so please don’t waste your money here. I have switched and thank God for guiding me through one of the best lawyers would I found out so many different potentials I can lead my case with after wasting all my money and time with these people!!

I cannot say enough good things about HMA law office. Hassan is the most caring and efficient immigration lawyer I've seen. If other lawyers don't give you hope, go to Hassan. Most lawyers just take cases they can make easy money on but not him. Hassan Ahmad is running to stand up for our values in the Virginia House of Delegates on a platform centered in protecting and advocating for immigrants. That alone speaks highly of a lawyer that truly cares and believes in us. His team is extremely knowledgeable and highly responsive which goes a long way. Sharifa Abbasi is extremely knowledgeable and professional Attorney with a great personal touch and Humza kasmi is another fantastic attorney who helped me towards the end of my individual hearing . We were on a time crunch and he came through miraculously always making me feel that I was taken care of. You couldn't ask for better service. After trying for over ten years with a succession of different lawyers to remove conditions on green card and terminate removal proceedings,I went to HMA law firm and sat down with Hassan.Hassan and his team moved by my tragic story which was very complicated .Mr.Hassan saw a clear strategy that needed to be implemented. They secured all my documentation from the old attorney. The case was then set for oral argument in April 8th 2019. Mr.Hassan and his team spent days preparing for argument since the case was extremely complex. At argument, I was asked tough questions by government and IJ and given a chance to tell my story after hearing my testimony and witness testimony IJ granted permanent Green card and terminated removal proceedings. In Short period Mr.Hassan and his team had brought an immigration nightmare of 11 years to an end.I did extensive research and talked to many lawyers. This office is hands down the best I found and I don't see anyone regret putting their lives in the hands of such amazing professionals.

Hassan had gotten my father's citizenship case out of gridlock that lasted over two years. His presence and understanding of immigration laws and current contexts helped produce positive outcomes and a long-awaited citizenship for my father. I would recommend him a thousand times and more.

I have dealt with immigration lawyers for the last 14 years during my trip to citizenship and this group is by far the best. Very professional and punctual. I worked with Hassan and he was just a pleasure to work with. during our last immigration interview things got really delayed and he patiently stayed with us for hours and didn't charge extra. He gave us great advice and all his actions proved to be on point. I highly recommend them.

I hired Hassan when after an unfortunate series of events, in which I had become out of status for a while and the sword of 3 to 10 year ban hung on my head with an injured spouse that was not able to live in the US without me, and wasn't able to travel outside the country. He filed through all the waivers, my permanent green card was approved within an year of him filling. The EAD came right on the 80th day and the whole immigration filing went extremely smoothly and it was a fantastic time line. I would highly recommend Hassan for immigration purposes for the most complicated cases. He is truly respectful and understanding of the circumstances. Never did I fell rushed, when I didn't have a few documents with me, Hassan and his team were patient with me. I wish them tons of success and a shout out for helping families stay together. Thank you to Hassan, Karen and Valeria for all your support and the amazing work you do.

I hired Jennifer to represent me in a court case involved my late husband's affairs due to no will. She is extremely compassionate, well informed of the laws in VA. She answers all questions promptly. I do not know how I would have been able to navigate the probate court system without. She is fair in her charges and looks for ways to save you the client money. I would whole heartedly refer anyone looking for a lawyer to help with the VA probate process. Kathleen G. Miller

My wife Mary Anne and I were recommended to Jennifer Lucey for preparation of an estate plan. We couldn't recommend Jennifer more highly: personable, professional, taking the time to first discern our needs and then advising us on several possible courses of action to accomplish our ends. We met with Jennifer in person several times and reviewed comprehensive drafts of the documents she carefully prepared, while she revised them to closely attune to our wishes. She is an absolute delight and a consummate professional. We are very pleased.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Mclean, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
