Cons
1
The firm can be difficult to reach by phone, with calls often going unanswered or unreturned
“It's a debt collector!!! Horrible, horrible, horrible!!!! Spent numerous days just trying to get in contact with anyone with knowledge of my account. Their slow reactions and inability to communicate quickly is very frustrating.”
2
The firm has been accused of using unethical practices in their debt collection efforts, such as garnishing wages without proper notification
“This collection agency practices unethical collection practices.. They garnished my entire payroll for 3 weeks.. then told me in order to settle the account . I had to pay the settlement first before they would refund me what they collected. How does that make sense if you already collected they could have refunded me of the overpayment.”

They definitely show a clear sense of favoritism and underpay you. They had no clear reason to fire me less than a month being there and barely even trained me but expected me to learn everything. They have no clear structure or proper management there. Definitely do not recommend them

Hampton Roads… this is long overdue and I do apologize, but I do want to say back in 2008, my husband and I, we were in a terrible car accident, on Highway 58 in Virginia, my husband was driving a red car came out in front of us and hasn’t swerve from hitting the right vehicle. The vehicle never stopped and attract. The trailer had hit us a long story short my husband was in a coma. He was air VAC to Sentera hospital and off, and I was also hospitalized for three days. I have no idea how we would’ve gotten out of the situation without the help of George Albiston, Brannon& Gilbert and team! This organization really truly got us back on track help my husband through this ordeal, it also helped me to get my life back on track. Mr.Albiston and his team was a godsend! They help me regain to get my life back. I had to trust him. I had to have confidence in myself. And I also had to realize that this man knew what he was talking about. I realize also picking this team was the best decision for my husband, and myself, Mr. Albiston and, his team, was very precise and very knowledgeable, he won our case in court! We were very blessed that he was our attorney and he helped us win our case, Sandra, was very polite, very helpful and very knowledgeable, whenever you are in need for an an attorney or a lawyer, please do not hesitate to call his office, The team is very family oriented! If I could rate this company with less than 1 star I would. This company shows clear favoritism towards certain employees over others. They are unorganized, unethical, and abysmal in their practices. I strongly advise against doing business with them. The elder Glasser embodies the "good ol' boy" mentality, showing no concern for his employees. They are outdated in their methods and demonstrate the worst work ethic I've seen a company have. Im not sure why they are still allowed to recieve contracts to conduct business but it's time for them to close the door.

I retained Brandon for several cases, and if I ever needed representation again, he'd be the first lawyer I'd contact. When I hired Brandon, my life was taking a nose dive but his extensive knowledge of the law came through for my family. He represented me in my divorce and fought an insurance company to make sure they paid me my fair share when a drunk driver hit my home. Largely due to his diligence, my family now is doing great and we've moved on from those issues. The one thing that comes to mind when working with Brandon was my peace of mind knowing that he had everything handled for all my cases. I never had to worry about paperwork, never had to worry about how "good" the other side was and never had to worry about if we were going to win. We did, every time. Brandon is an unrelenting lawyer and you can trust that when he says he can help, he can help.

I call him a great defender because, he fought tooth and nail to speak for me. In the beginning I tried to do it on my own and realized it was bigger than me. I even did mediation with party involved through the EEOC, and I felt like I was being bullied. After talking it over with my family, I sought out a lawyer. I met with Mr. Bybee and his team, and they was so kind. He heard my side of the story and said I had a case, so I hired him. From there, every time I had a mediation with the other party he was there to speaks for me. I no longer felt like I wasn't being heard or I was just a small person in a big company. We spoke on the phone and even through email. If he didn't write back right away, I knew he was in court defending another person. When he was done though, he always responded. When my case came to a closing we did settle and I walked away grateful to him. He is a very caring and family oriented man. He always asked how me and my family was doing and even when my case was over, he checked on us doing the holidays. I am grateful to this man and his team. If I have to use him again, I will be calling.

Brandon has been the most thorough attorney I’ve ever encountered. He keeps me up to date with proceedings, makes my stressful situations feel seen, and goes hard for me. I appreciate everything he’s done for me, I’m happy with the results of my case. And would recommend to anybody who had similar concerns.

I was faced with a series of difficult and life-changing events, which potentially ruined my professional standing as well as my financial security. Mr. Jewett worked tirelessly and aggressively to sort out and define a multitude of wrongful and illegal actions committed against me and brought them into the context of a legal suit. He performed competently and swiftly in dealing with the perpetrators of torts against me and in turn, ensured that all wrongful actions were corrected. Now, I have been made whole, my professional standing remains strong, and I am financially secure. I will return to Mr. Jewett if I am in need of legal representation again. I highly recommend his services to others.

This was the first time I needed an attorney. We had a very serious, emotional problem that other attorney refused to take. Josh was the ultimate professional. His expert knowledge and compassion for our case helped guided us to successful resolution. I strongly recommend him to anyone in need of employment law expertise.

John Jewett is very knowledgeable about employment law and extremely transparent to ensure there are no surprises during the process (i.e. cost, mapping possible outcomes and its impact on you). He came highly recommended and I was definitely satisfied with his work.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Norfolk, Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
