I was falsely accused of an assault and battery charge under Virginia law (18.2-57), which carries a maximum sentence of confinement in jail for up to 12 months and a fine of up to $2,500. Even though the charges were false and malicious, I had to answer to the charges in Virginia when I discovered that a warrant had been issued for my arrest. I was recently accused of trespassing and assault & battery, both what I thought to be clear cases that I would easily show the judge I wasn't guilty of. Never being convicted or even accused of crimes in the past, I didn't know what to expect but didn't think I needed an attorney. I was found guilty of trespassing in district court so I appealed it.
